Can the Cowboys Still Win the NFC East? Eagles’ Surprise Loss to Bears Opens the Door for Dallas

After the Dallas Cowboys' win on Thanksgiving and the Philadelphia Eagles' loss on Black Friday, where do things stand in the NFC East?

The Dallas Cowboys put on a show on Thanksgiving, defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 31-28 just a few days after taking down the Philadelphia Eagles. After beating both Super Bowl LIX teams in the span of four days, Cowboys fans are understandably feeling pretty good about this team’s chances of making a postseason run.

However, can the Cowboys still make the NFL playoffs, or did they dig themselves too deep a hole earlier in the season? Here’s a look at Dallas’ latest postseason scenarios and how the Eagles’ loss to the Chicago Bears on Black Friday helped them.

Can the Cowboys Still Win Their Division?

With the result of Thursday’s win and the Eagles’ loss, Dallas’ chances of making the NFL playoffs increased significantly. However, they still face an uphill battle.

According to PFSN’s NFL Playoff Predictor, the Cowboys now have a 25.2% chance of making the playoffs and a 15.5% chance of winning the NFC East.

In the win over the Chiefs, Dak Prescott had two touchdown passes on the day, along with one interception. Running back Javonte Williams finished the game with 17 carries for 59 yards, and three receptions for 21 yards, along with a touchdown.

In the receiving game, Cowboys wide receivers George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb each put together pretty good games as well. Lamb had seven catches for 112 yards and one touchdown reception, while Pickens answered with six catches for 88 yards and no touchdowns. Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey drilled three field goals and two PATs.

According to PFSN’s NFL Offense Impact metrics, Dallas currently has the third-best offense in the NFL with an impact score of 87.4. The Cowboys appear to be a different team since acquiring Quinnen Williams and Logan Wilson in trades before the deadline, and they have won three straight games to keep their postseason hopes alive.

Meanwhile, the Eagles now have a 90.8% chance of making the playoffs and an 85% chance of winning the division, so they are still in the driver’s seat despite their recent struggles. In fact, Philadelphia still has an 11.4% chance of advancing to the Super Bowl and a 5.5% chance of winning the Super Bowl, according to our model.

Dallas’ offense is clicking with Lamb and Pickens both healthy, and the defense may still be flawed, but it’s shown significant improvements since the NFL trade deadline. I wouldn’t want to have to face this red-hot Cowboys team down the stretch this year.
