Over the first seven weeks of the 2025 NFL season, very few players have taken the entire football world by storm like Cam Skattebo. A fourth-round pick by the New York Giants, he wasn’t supposed to be the clear-cut first option at the running back spot just seven games into his career. However, Skattebo has established himself as a fan favorite and has had some incredible performances to support his argument.
But just as his rise was gaining momentum, an unexpected off-field setback has clouded the celebration. As the Giants prepare for their next big test against the Philadelphia Eagles, Skattebo has been fined over 12% of his salary.
Cam Skattebo Faces Major Fine Ahead of Eagles Matchup
It’s the second time this week that Skattebo has been fined by the NFL. Earlier, he was penalized $15,000 for a concussion protocol violation involving Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart. This latest fine comes from a play during Week 7 against the Denver Broncos.
On Saturday, the league announced that Skattebo would be fined $6,157 for unnecessary roughness, specifically for actions described as “striking/kicking/tripping/kneeing,” during the fourth quarter with 4:56 remaining.
The penalty stemmed from Skattebo attempting to pick up a blitz that was blown up by Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton, leading to an interception thrown by Dart. Notably, the play was not flagged during the game, meaning the fine was levied retroactively.
“I mean, I got f–ked up,” Skattebo told the NY Daily News while reflecting on the play. “That’s really it.”
“He got lower than me and he hit me harder. That’s really it,” Skattebo said. “I gotta be better in that moment for my quarterback. But he just got the better end of it that time.”

Skattebo’s base salary for the season is $840,000, which breaks down to about $49,411 per game. The $6,157 fine represents roughly 12.46% of his game check, a stark reminder of how costly league infractions can be, both financially and in terms of reputation.
On the field, Skattebo’s rookie season has been nothing short of remarkable. He has rushed for 398 yards and five touchdowns on 98 carries, injecting new life into a Giants offense that has struggled for consistency in recent years. His chemistry with Dart has provided the team with renewed energy and optimism.
According to PFSN’s RB Impact metrics, Skattebo currently holds an RB Impact Score of 77.5, earning a C+ grade for the 2025 season. He ranks 21st among running backs this year and 119th overall since 2013.
Skattebo has also contributed in the passing game, hauling in 23 receptions for 189 yards and a touchdown on 30 targets, highlighting his versatility and growing role in the Giants’ offense.
