An injury to RB Tyrone Tracy Jr. allowed rookie RB Cam Skattebo to be an integral part of the New York Giants’ first win of the season. The 23-year-old made waves at Arizona State before being drafted No. 105 overall by the Giants. He ran for 45+ yards in each of his last three games, an incredible mark for a player who has had to climb his way up the depth chart. Recently, Skattebo opened up about his horrible diet on cheat days.
New York Giants RB Cam Skattebo Discusses His Ultimate Cheat Day
While he doesn’t have them often, every athlete has their cheat days. For Skattebo, they might be a bit more extreme than others. When talking it over with “Snap & Swish,” Skattebo went into exactly what goes into his body on cheat days.
“Oh, it’s bad,” Skattebo said. “I’ll say, probably three-quarters of a pound of candy. This is a bad cheat day. A lot of candy, a lot of chips, some soda. I mean, I don’t really eat real meals on some days. Hop on the game and snack…. Like one day every couple of weeks. I mean pasta, spicy rig, I love bread so it’s hard to get away from bread. I’m not a very fancy eater so I eat whatever’s put in front of me.”
Skattebo’s discussion featured more than just his ideal cheat day, though that is the part of the conversation that turned the most heads. It’s hard to imagine an NFL player eating three-quarters of a pound of candy, but the 5’9½” 219-pound running back is free to do whatever he desires. At the end of the day, nothing has affected his performance on the field.
In his RB1 debut, Skattebo knocked it out of the park. His yards per attempt were down significantly from the week prior, but Skattebo carried the ball 25 times against the Los Angeles Chargers. In fact, those 25 carries were more than he had in the first three games combined. He finished with 90 total yards, 79 of which were on the ground. Through the Giants’ first four games, he has 48 carries for 181 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Skattebo is currently ranked 23rd in PFSN’s RB Impact Metric. One of the key elements to his game is his ability as a pass catcher, something that shone brightly against the Kansas City Chiefs. On Sunday Night Football, he finished with six receptions for 61 yards. Keep in mind, he’s yet to have more than 14 receiving yards in any of the other three games.
