Cam Skattebo exploded onto the scene last season in college with the Arizona State Sun Devils. The running back helped lead the Sun Devils on a surprising run to the College Football Playoff and was considered one of the top running back prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The New York Giants drafted Skattebo in the fourth round, and it didn’t take long for the running back to impress. Skattebo already had seven touchdowns entering Week 8, but unfortunately, that week would be the end of his season. Skattebo suffered a season-ending ankle injury against the Eagles, a devastating blow for both the team and the player. Now, Skattebo has broken his silence on the injury.

What Did Cam Skattebo Say About His Injury?
Melanie Collins of CBS Sports mentioned during the Week 9 broadcast that Skattebo is already back in the building with his teammates. Collins was able to speak with Skattebo, and the running back expressed his gratitude for the support he has received.
“I’m extremely appreciative of the unwavering support I’ve received,” Skattebo explained. “Recovery is going well, and I’m excited to attack this rehab with everything I have.”
Notably, there was an outpouring of support for Skattebo from across the NFL world. Eagles staffer Dom “Big Dom” DiSandro even visited Skattebo at the hospital and dropped off pizzas and cheese steaks. Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart, who had grown close with Skattebo, was notably shaken by the injury.
Collins also mentioned that the surgery on Skattebo’s fibula and ankle was considered a success. Skattebo’s rookie season is over, but the hope is that he will be healthy enough to play in Week 1 of the 2026 season.
Skattebo ends his 2025 season with 101 carries for 410 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. The rookie also caught 24 passes for 207 yards and two scores, showing his importance to both the run game and passing game. PFSN’s RB Impact ranking gave Skattebo a 76.7 grade for his performance in 2025.
Now, the Giants will have to finish out the back half of the season without one of their most explosive players. Tyrone Tracy Jr. is expected to take over the majority of the running back snaps for the Giants for the rest of the season.
In Week 9, the Giants are taking on the San Francisco 49ers. At 2-6, a trip to the playoffs is unlikely, but the team would like to secure some wins to feel good about their chances heading into 2026.
