Cam Skattebo’s Surprising Alternative Careers

When asked in an interview with “Snap & Swish” what he would be doing if football hadn’t worked out, Skattebo didn’t hesitate. “I’d be a firefighter or I’d probably be working for my dad, doing pest control,” he revealed.

Skattebo joked about the unusual nature of the work, describing his dad’s daily battles with rodents and saying, “I mean, he works with rodents all the time. So, it’s like they got this rat in the wall, get rid of this.”

Skattebo’s father, Leonard, a graduate of Rio Linda High School and co-founder of Trifecta Home Services Corporation, has built an impressive career in the pest control industry spanning over 24 years. Thanks to his family’s background, Skattebo would have had no shortage of opportunities if football hadn’t worked out.

Fortunately for Skattebo and the Giants fans, he broke out in 2024 at Arizona State, rushing for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns on 293 carries. He added 605 receiving yards on 45 receptions with three more touchdowns, becoming only the second Big 12 player to surpass 1,500 rushing and 500 receiving yards in a single season.

New York saw his potential and selected him in the fourth round, signing him to a four-year, $5.27 million contract. Skattebo has already been paying dividends for the Giants and is now looking to establish himself as the team’s clear RB1.

In week 4 against the Chargers, he carried the ball 25 times, more than he had in the first three games combined. He finished the game with 90 total yards, including 79 rushing yards, showcasing his growing role in the Giants’ offense. Through the first four games, he has 48 carries for 181 yards and two touchdowns.

Skattebo is currently ranked 23rd in PFSN’s RB Impact Metric, with his versatility as a pass catcher standing out as one of his key strengths. This was on full display during Week 3 Sunday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs, where he caught six passes for 61 yards. However, it’s worth noting that in the other three games, he hasn’t recorded more than 14 receiving yards yet, highlighting that his impact as a receiver is still developing.
