The Tennessee Titans’ offense is already under fire after a disastrous Week 4 shutout, and now they are dealing with another problem. Star wide receiver Calvin Ridley, expected to be a central piece of the passing attack, is suddenly facing questions about his health and his role going forward.
Calvin Ridley’s Struggles Continue as Titans Face Tough Decisions
Ridley’s workload dipped noticeably during the Titans’ 26-0 loss to the Houston Texans. Jim Wyatt of the Titans’ official site reported that head coach Brian Callahan explained on Monday that Ridley’s playing time was reduced in Sunday’s game against the Texans because of an unspecified injury.
That drop was significant. Ridley, who had been on the field for at least 86 percent of offensive snaps in each of the Titans’ first three games, saw that number fall to just 54 percent in Week 4. The change led to another frustrating outing as the 30-year-old finished with two receptions for 30 yards on three targets.
Ridley’s season totals paint an even bleaker picture. He has yet to score a touchdown and has been held under 30 yards in three of four games. Overall, he has caught just 10 passes for 141 yards on 24 targets.
According to Wyatt, among wideouts with at least 10 targets this season, his 41.7 percent catch rate ranks fifth-worst at the position. The advanced numbers confirm that underperformance, with PFSN’s WR Impact metric placing Ridley at 78th among all receivers, far below expectations for a player of his caliber.
Last year DeAndre Hopkins was pulled out of a game early with minor injury concerns days before being traded by the #Titans.
Is history repeating itself with Calvin Ridley who was held out nearly the whole fourth quarter on Sunday? https://t.co/Jt6QPU3RUI

The Titans’ handling of Ridley late in Sunday’s game raised eyebrows. Callahan acknowledged that Ridley did suffer an injury during the game but added that the team was confident enough in his condition to put him back on the field for multiple drives afterward.
Even so, Ridley did not play most of the fourth quarter despite other offensive starters remaining on the field.
The decision suggests the Titans were being cautious or possibly that the injury͏ was more ͏limiting than ͏initially indicated. It remains unclear if Ridley’s condition will impact his status for Sunday’s matchup ͏against the ͏Arizona͏ Cardinals. His͏ practice participation throughout the week ͏will likely offer the first clues͏ about his availability.
Ridley’s situation is further complicated by the Titans’ broader struggles and growing speculation about potential roster moves.
There are reports that the Titans might consider placing Calvin Ridley on the trade block following their humiliating Week 4 defeat. While such a move could anger fans, given his expected chemistry with rookie quarterback Cam Ward, the team’s current trajectory might force difficult decisions.
For now, all eyes will be on practice reports as the Titans prepare for Week 5. What happens next could affect Ridley’s health, usage, and future with the team.
