Every word and action from Sanders is placed under a microscope by the media, making it nearly impossible for the third-string QB to focus on getting on the field. The Browns named their other rookie passer, Dillon Gabriel, as the starter for their Week 5 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. This comes after veteran Joe Flacco led Cleveland to a 1-3 record. Instead of giving reporters a reaction to the news of Gabriel being named the starter, Sanders decided to mouth words, giving the media no substance whatsoever.
This enraged social media users, as calls began mounting for the Browns to cut Sanders because of this deemed immature action.

There’s no denying Sanders has a huge personality that often shows in positive and negative ways. This has contributed to a handful of iconic moments and celebrations on the field, but it also tends to put him under a negative spotlight.

With Gabriel as the starter, Sanders may be the next man to have his chance as the Browns’ starter if the former Oregon Duck crumbles. Gabriel was selected in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, so the expectations for him fall short of being the face of the franchise.

Sanders will not be leaving the spotlight anytime soon, whether he remains in Cleveland or is eventually cut and picked up by a different organization. Wednesday may push the Browns a step closer to the latter.
