Calls Mount for Browns To Cut QB Shedeur Sanders After Viral Interview

Shedeur Sanders silently mouthed responses to media questions after the Browns named Dillon Gabriel their starting quarterback in Week 5.

Few players in the NFL are monitored more closely than Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Every word and action from Sanders is placed under a microscope by the media, making it nearly impossible for the third-string QB to focus on getting on the field. The Browns named their other rookie passer, Dillon Gabriel, as the starter for their Week 5 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. This comes after veteran Joe Flacco led Cleveland to a 1-3 record. Cleveland’s offense currently ranks 30th in PFSN’s Offense Impact metric.

When Sanders was asked about the switch in signal caller, he remained silent in a comical way, infuriating fans in the process.

Do the Cleveland Browns Need To Address the Actions of Shedeur Sanders in a Recent Interview?

Instead of giving reporters a reaction to the news of Gabriel being named the starter, Sanders decided to mouth words, giving the media no substance whatsoever.

This enraged social media users, as calls began mounting for the Browns to cut Sanders because of this deemed immature action.

“IT IS TIME FOR THE #BROWNS TO CUT SHEDEUR SANDERS,” a popular NFL social media account posted. “This is immature and a distraction to the team, coming from a third-string, fifth-round reserve quarterback.”

There’s no denying Sanders has a huge personality that often shows in positive and negative ways. This has contributed to a handful of iconic moments and celebrations on the field, but it also tends to put him under a negative spotlight.

“Cut him and sign another veteran for the practice squad. Sanders is CFL or Arena League material, nothing more,” one fan shared.

One user saw the Browns cutting Sanders from a more positive light, writing, “Please!!! Let them cut him I pray!! Maybe he’ll actually have a long and productive career elsewhere!!”

“Agree. Man baby,” one comment read.

With Gabriel as the starter, Sanders may be the next man to have his chance as the Browns’ starter if the former Oregon Duck crumbles. Gabriel was selected in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft, so the expectations for him fall short of being the face of the franchise.

Others decided to poke fun at Sanders, with a fan commenting, “Should be cut for that haircut alone.”

Sanders will not be leaving the spotlight anytime soon, whether he remains in Cleveland or is eventually cut and picked up by a different organization. Wednesday may push the Browns a step closer to the latter.
