Kevin Stefanski is headed to the NFC South to be the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. Baker Mayfield will be itching to take the field against the Falcons twice next season. A chance for revenge, a chance to prove Stefanski wrong, will be all Mayfield wants. Stefanski got rid of Mayfield when they were together in Cleveland, and Mayfield has a chip on his shoulder. He came out swinging on social media, calling out Stefanski.
Baker Mayfield Rips Kevin Stefanski
Mayfield’s tenure in Cleveland turned sour toward the end. Mayfield was shipped away, and the Browns moved on without worry. Mayfield hasn’t let go of how things ended and isn’t willing to let people describe his time there as a failure. After a Falcons reporter called out the quarterback play under Stefanski, Mayfield defended himself and took immediate aim at Stefanski’s behavior after his departure.
“Failed is quite the reach pal. Still waiting on a text/call from him after I got shipped off like a piece of garbage. Can’t wait to see you twice a year, Coach,” said Mayfield.

The Browns were in tough times before Stefanski and Mayfield arrived. They helped end a long playoff drought and bring a playoff win back to Cleveland. In 2020, when they made the playoffs, Mayfield was the 12th-ranked QB in PFSN’s QB Impact score. After that season, they missed the playoffs in 2021, and things were never the same between the two.
Mayfield is still waiting for Stefanski to reach out to him. Mayfield felt slighted by the way he was treated in Cleveland and holds a grudge against them. Now, his vendetta against Stefanski will take center stage as they play each other twice each season in the NFC South.
Fans, it’s time to circle these games on the schedule. These should be filled with fireworks and two men aiming to prove themselves against each other. The Falcons and Buccaneers treated fans to two great games during the 2025 regular season, and it could be even better with Mayfield’s callout.
Mayfield and the Bucs had a catastrophic second half of the season. They were sitting pretty at 6-2 despite some early injuries, but floundered down the stretch to finish 8-9 and blow the divisional crown to the Panthers. The Falcons sat at 8-9 as well, but didn’t win the tiebreaker either.
With evenly matched teams and a rivalry forming between Stefanski and Mayfield, their first matchup could likely be center stage on primetime. It should be a great one as Mayfield will have his eyes set on backing up his shot at Stefanski.
