Shedeur Sanders has not taken a single snap for the Cleveland Browns during the 2025 NFL season, yet he is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about rookies in the city. While the team has kept him on the sidelines through ten weeks, his impact is being felt far from the football field.
A recent act of generosity has captured the community’s attention, creating a buzz around the player fans have yet to see in action.
Why Is Shedeur Sanders Who Hasn’t Played Making Headlines in Cleveland?
The Browns selected Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, viewing him as a potential building block for their future. He was the second quarterback Cleveland took in that draft, following the selection of Dillon Gabriel in the third round.
While Gabriel has been serving as the starter in recent weeks, his massive struggles have not yet opened the door for the other rookie to get a shot.
Despite being unable to contribute on the field, Sanders has found a different way to be a difference-maker in Cleveland. He recently went viral for teaming up with a local car dealership to provide a struggling mother with a free car. Torri Wright of Avon, Ohio, was reportedly the recipient of his kindness after her kids nominated her for the charitable donation.

It is admirable that Sanders is making the most of his time by trying to make a difference in the community he now calls home. He is hoping to make a difference on the football field as well, eventually, but for now, he remains the backup quarterback.
Meanwhile, the on-field situation for the Browns has been bleak. Gabriel has been one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL this season, ranking 37th out of 38 qualified players on PFSN’s Impact Rankings through the first ten weeks. In his five starts, he has failed to rank better than 20th in the weekly rankings and has secured only one victory.
Gabriel took over as the starter after the team traded Joe Flacco to the Cincinnati Bengals. Given the team’s dismal 2-7 record and a recent disappointing loss to the lowly New York Jets, it is fair to wonder if a change at quarterback is on the horizon.
With no signs of turning things around, the Browns may soon have to consider giving their other rookie a chance to play.
