Browns QB Depth Chart: Will Taylen Green Start for Cleveland Over Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson?

The Cleveland Browns are repeating their formula as they picked Taylen Green in the sixth round. Find out whether he'll be starting for the Browns.

Cleveland, here’s another quarterback to get used to. The Browns started off training camp in 2025 with four quarterbacks all vying for the starting job. Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders all wanted the QB1 role, but that title changed hands multiple times throughout the season. The Browns selected another quarterback in the draft to add to their new congested QB room in 2026 by selecting Arkansas’ Taylen Green.

Browns QB Depth Chart for 2026

Flacco and Pickett were traded by the trade deadline in 2025, which opened the avenue for Gabriel and Sanders to shine. Gabriel got the first chance, but after a short injury, Sanders became the starting QB for the rest of the season. He’ll be ahead in the race, but there’s plenty of opportunity for a different QB to potentially wow the new staff.

Shedeur Sanders

Sanders was the story of the 2025 NFL Draft with a wild slide to the fifth round. After not being given much of a look in the preseason, Sanders aimed to make the most of his chance once it presented itself in the regular season. He started the Browns’ final seven games and tallied three of their wins. His on-field performance wasn’t all that special, though, as he was the fourth-worst-ranked quarterback on PFSN’s QB Impact Metric.

Sanders is the early favorite to be the starter because he finished last season as the starter. But he’ll have to compete with the others.

Deshaun Watson

The Browns thought they had the answer with Watson. They signed Watson to a $230 million deal, expecting that he would be the quarterback to finally elevate them out of the bottom of the NFL. He’s been far from that and missed all of last season with a torn Achilles. He’s been with Cleveland for four seasons now and has never appeared in more than seven games in a season.

At his best, Watson can sling it with the best of the best. But he’s far removed from that, and questions remain whether he’ll ever be that guy once again.

Dillon Gabriel

Gabriel was selected before Sanders in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He got his chance once the Browns decided to bench Flacco. He didn’t prove much, and his roster spot could be in jeopardy with the addition of their new QB, Green. On PFSN’s QB Impact Metric, he ranked one spot lower than Sanders and was the third-worst-ranked quarterback in the league.

Taylen Green

Green is a very interesting prospect. He is a freak athlete who tested extremely well at the NFL Combine. The Browns are banking on his athletic traits to pan out and make him a dangerous weapon at quarterback if he cleans up some of his bad habits.

The Browns QB room is packed, and Green will need to show why he belongs in Cleveland, but the Browns see something in him and have made this room a storyline to monitor. However, he is more of a developmental project for head coach Todd Monken and is not expected to see the field this year.
