The Cleveland Browns are starving for success.
Entering their Week 11 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens (4-5), the Browns have a record of 2-7. While rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel is not solely at fault for their shortcomings, he is playing mediocre football.
Fans are desperate to see Cleveland’s other rookie signal caller, Shedeur Sanders, on the field. However, a new report suggests the Browns could give up on Sanders before ever giving him a real chance.
Browns Could Trade for Kyler Murray
The Kyler Murray era for the Arizona Cardinals appears to be coming to a close. This is not simply speculation but a belief held by ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler as well.
“I’m leaning toward Murray not sticking in Arizona in 2026,” Fowler began. “Murray has spent seven seasons under center, and Arizona has one winning season and zero playoff wins to show for it. It feels like it’s time. It’s hard to envision any scenario in which the Cardinals want to guarantee $19.5 million of 2027 salary for Murray, which would be the case if they don’t trade or release him by the fifth day of the upcoming league year.”
Murray is having quite an underwhelming season in Arizona, as he is the No. 18-ranked quarterback in PFSN’s metrics with an impact score of 75.3. He has appeared in just five games, recording 962 passing yards, six touchdown throws, and three interceptions. He has also rushed for 173 yards and a touchdown.
Murray has three guaranteed seasons remaining on his five-year, $230 million contract, so trading for him likely signals a long-term commitment.
Fowler went on to list the Browns as a potential landing spot for the 28-year-old, writing, “It’s clear to everyone watching the Cardinals over the past month that the offense is running more smoothly with Jacoby Brissett at the helm. Murray’s 44.3 QBR ranks 26th in the NFL, but he is an immense talent who could use a change. Multiple teams will likely have quarterback openings, including the Jets and Browns.”
If Murray is brought to Cleveland, the odds Sanders ever gets a real opportunity to shine become even slimmer.
