Where Are the Two Teams Standing Heading Into Week 12?
The Browns and Raiders have both struggled to a 2-8 record this year, currently sitting in last place in their respective divisions. This would usually make a game like this so late in the season unexciting, but Sanders’ debut as a starter adds a significant amount of intrigue to the matchup.
Many around the league have been urging the Browns to give him an opportunity amid Dillon Gabriel severe struggles to perform. He currently ranks 37th of 38 qualified quarterbacks in PFSN’s Impact Rankings this year.
The Browns had been hesitant to turn to Sanders, who hadn’t taken a single snap all season. That changed when Gabriel went down with a concussion, essentially forcing their hand. His debut? Rough. He completed just four of 16 passes for 47 yards and threw a pick.
His atrocious debut may have explained why Cleveland was hesitant to put Sanders into a game, but Gabriel was unable to clear the concussion protocols in time for their Week 12 game against the Raiders. This means that Sanders will make his first start of his career just one week after making his debut.
He will do so on the road in Las Vegas against a team that has epically failed to live up to their expectations in Pete Carroll’s return to the NFL. The legendary head coach has been unable to get them back on track, despite being hired to do so.
Making things even worse is that they acquired Geno Smith to solve their quarterback situation during the offseason, although it was not entirely clear how this would be achieved. He has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns in his first year with the Raiders, further underscoring the team’s inability to address its issues ahead of the 2025 campaign.
