‘Browns Fans Are Being Gaslit’ — Analyst Slams Positive Spin on Deshaun Watson Becoming Cleveland’s QB1

Some are trying to see the potential upside in naming Deshaun Watson QB1. But one Cleveland Browns analyst doesn't want to hear it.

After a long saga, the Cleveland Browns have finally named their starting quarterback. But of course, not everyone agrees with the decision to make Deshaun Watson QB1.

Meanwhile, others are trying to find the positives in Cleveland moving forward with the three-time Pro Bowl QB. Some have even tried to offer some insight by trying to look at things from Watson’s perspective, being booed by his home fanbase.

But again, some don’t want to hear any compassion for the controversial QB.

Cleveland Browns Analyst Says Fans Are Being ‘Gaslit’

From a public relations standpoint, the Browns were quick to downplay any issues about Watson calling fans “disrespectful” for booing him while noting they also cheered after his Achilles tear.

After Watson peeled back the layers of his feelings, some, like local Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot, came to his defense. But some of Cabot’s fellow members of the Cleveland media clearly don’t agree.

Specifically, Nick Wilson of “92.3 The Fan” suggested that the intelligence of Browns fans is being “insulted” by saying Watson gives the team the “best chance to win.” Wilson wasn’t done with his rant.

“When you start saying, ‘consider Deshaun’s perspective, or what is your why Deshaun?’” Wilson said. “When you start saying that kind of stuff, you’re already insulting my intelligence by saying Deshaun Watson is going to give this team the best chance to win. You’re already insulting my intelligence that this is about football and only about football. But now I gotta eat a crap sandwich and like it?”

Furthermore, he argued that Browns fans are actually being “gaslit” into thinking about the personal side of what Watson has gone through in Cleveland.

“Now I have media people who work on this station, by the way, who want to go ahead and say, ‘Oh, why don’t you consider Deshaun’s feelings?’” Wilson said. “No! I don’t have to like any part of this. I think the whole thing’s a kangaroo court, and I think you’re insulting people’s intelligence.”

“I think Browns fans are being gaslit by anyone saying, ‘think of his feelings, how does he feel?’ Nobody says this about any of the great, complicated football people in history,” Wilson added. “Nobody does this. But for some reason, in 2026, we think we should do this with Deshaun Watson.”

It’s clear that Wilson and other Browns followers are fed up with how the team has supported their starting quarterback. Which, that’s a weird sentence to type; how many other fan bases are ready to revolt simply because of who their team anointed as the starter?

The Browns have an odd situation on their hands, and it doesn’t seem to be one that will go away any time soon. Unless, of course, first-year head coach Todd Monken can lead a sharp turnaround and start putting some wins on the board.

However, Monken has a tough task ahead of him, as the Browns offense finished last season as the worst unit on PFN’s Offense Impact Metric, with an impact score of 54.0.
