Shedeur Sanders was the talk of the 2025 NFL Draft. The former Colorado quarterback was expected to be a first-round selection and instead fell to day three when the Cleveland Browns ended his slide, picking him in the fifth round.
With Sanders now on the Browns, one of his new teammates took to social media to share his thoughts on having Sanders as his teammate.

Greg Newsome Comments on Sanders Being Drafted by the Browns
“I like Shedeur…I like a Quarterback that just got that IT factor,” said Browns cornerback Greg Newsome. “If you coming in there with that confidence and swagger… That’s my type of guy.”

Sanders was one of the most polarizing prospects in the entire NFL Draft due to the combination of his talent, personality, and family. His father is Hall of Fame cornerback and current Colorado head coach, Deion Sanders.
His leadership and confidence have been positive aspects throughout the draft process, while character questions are presumably part of the reason he fell in the draft.
Sanders completed 74.0% of his passes for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions in 2024 while leading the Buffaloes to a 9-4 record. He holds the FBS record for career completion percentage at 71.8%.
Sanders joins a crowded quarterback room that includes Deshaun Watson, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and fellow 2025 draft choice Dillon Gabriel.
Cleveland was heavily linked to Sanders throughout the draft process, which was why it was so surprising that the team selected Gabriel in round three with Sandres still on the board.
Gabriel led the Big Ten in completions and pass attempts in 2024 while completing 72.9% of his passes for 3,857 yards, 30 touchdowns, and six interceptions for Oregon.

While Gabriel was selected before Sanders, that does not guarantee anything on the depth chart. With five quarterbacks on the current roster and Watson expected to miss much of the season due to injury, the Browns could look to move one of their quarterbacks before the start of the season.
Until then, Sanders will compete with the other options on the roster and have his opportunity to prove he deserves playing time.
Confidence from one of his new teammates is a good sign to start for Sanders, but how much he plays will be up to him, as how well he plays in training camp and the preseason. While the quarterback room in Cleveland is crowded, winning the starting job is possible, with no entrenched starter currently on the roster. Sanders will continue to be one of the top storylines leading up to the season as he looks to prove the doubters wrong.
