Bo Nix has been one of the most impressive young quarterbacks in the NFL since being drafted by the Denver Broncos last year. He helped them reach the playoffs last season and currently has them in a favorable position to get there again.
The Broncos used the offseason to add weapons around their rising star and put him in the best situation possible. They apparently aren’t done doing so just yet after adding another one ahead of their Week 9 game.
The Denver Broncos Add Another Weapon for Bo Nix
The Broncos made several offseason moves to give Nix a wider arsenal of weapons to work with this year. This includes adding veterans, such as tight end Evan Engram and running back J.K. Dobbins, as well as drafting running back RJ Harvey and wide receiver Pat Bryant.
This has helped them achieve a 6-2 record and currently sit on top of the AFC West divisional standings. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, they are continuing to improve their offensive roster as Week 9 approaches after signing another veteran.
Pelissero stated in an X post, “Back for more: Veteran TE Marcedes Lewis is signing with the Broncos practice squad, sources tell The Insiders. At age 41, Lewis returns for a 20th NFL season as the lone active member of the 2006 draft class.”

Marcedes Lewis brings a ton of experience to the Broncos, having been in the league for 20 years. His first 12 seasons were spent with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who picked him 28th overall in the first round of the 2006 NFL draft. He joined the Green Bay Packers in 2018 for five seasons, later moving to the Chicago Bears in 2023 for two more.
The 41-year-old will reportedly join Denver’s practice squad initially and adds depth to their tight ends. This could be useful for them with Lucas Krull and Nate Adkins both currently out with injuries. Krull recently had foot surgery, while Adkins suffered a knee injury last week against the Dallas Cowboys.

Engram and Adam Trautman remain on their roster as the top two tight ends for Nix’s offense, but Lewis provides them with reinforcements for their other injured options. He has been extremely reliable in recent years, despite limited production, appearing on the active roster for every game across the past four years.
The Broncos appear to be fully committed to Nix, continuing to support him as much as possible. According to PFSN’s Quarterback Impact (QBi), the young quarterback is rated C+ with a score of 79.0.
The team’s efforts in uplifting their quarterback seem to be working, as they have taken a step forward this year. Their playoff appearance in the 2024-25 season was impressive, but they are now one of the best overall teams in the NFL. They enter Week 9 tied with the New England Patriots for the second-best record in the AFC, trailing only the breakout Indianapolis Colts.
