Denver Aims to Boost Rookie Bo Nix With Bold George Pickens Trade

A major offseason prediction centers on the possibility of George Pickens moving from the Dallas Cowboys to the Broncos, a move that could significantly strengthen Bo Nix’s supporting cast.

After being acquired by the Cowboys in a prior trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pickens delivered the most productive season of his career in 2025, catching 93 passes for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns across 17 games. His performance earned Second Team All-Pro honors and his first Pro Bowl selection.

Pickens’ production has been consistently strong throughout his career. As a rookie in 2022, he recorded 52 receptions for 801 yards and four touchdowns. He followed that with 63 catches for 1,140 yards and five touchdowns in 2023, then added 59 receptions for 900 yards and three scores in 2024 despite playing only 14 games.

Across four seasons, Pickens has totaled 267 receptions for 4,270 yards and 21 receiving touchdowns, while also adding a rushing touchdown, bringing his career total to 22 touchdowns. His steady growth and big-play ability have made him one of the league’s most valuable young receivers.

According to PFSN’s WR Impact metric, Pickens posted an 88.4 Impact Score in 2025, earning a B+ grade while ranking third among wide receivers for the season. He finished 29th overall among all receivers graded since 2019, reinforcing the consistency of his production.

Over 17 games, he was targeted 137 times, recording 93 receptions for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns, numbers that underline his central role in Dallas’ offense.

Despite that production, his future with the Cowboys appears uncertain. ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler warned that applying the franchise tag could trigger tension between the player and the team.

“Pickens wants to stay with the Cowboys, but he’s not going to take less than market value,” Fowler said on Thursday. “He’s not going to cut them any deals.”

That market value is expected to exceed $30 million annually, placing the Cowboys in a difficult financial position. The Cowboys are already paying All-Pro receiver CeeDee Lamb $34 million per year, and committing similar money to Pickens would be rare across the league. ESPN analyst Louis Riddick highlighted the unusual nature of such a move.

“There isn’t a team currently paying 2 wide receivers over $30 million each,” Riddick said. “That doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be and that there won’t be soon.”

Financial strain deepens the situation. Reports indicate that the Cowboys were about $66.8 million over the salary cap as of February 12, forcing difficult decisions. Even with a projected cap increase, restructuring would be required to afford a long-term deal for Pickens.

Tension is further amplified by the strained relationship between Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Pickens’ agent David Mulugheta, which previously surfaced during Micah Parsons’ departure.

In this projected scenario, the Broncos capitalize. The prediction suggests the Broncos could trade a second-round pick for Pickens and sign him to a multi-year extension worth roughly $31 million per year.

Such a move would give Bo Nix a proven, explosive target and potentially accelerate the Broncos’ rise. If negotiations with the Cowboys collapse, this bold prediction could quickly become reality.
