What Should Fans Expect As Jarrett Stidham Steps In As Broncos Navigate Life After Bo Nix?

The Broncos earned the No. 1 seed in the AFC and reached the conference championship game for the first time since 2015, but their momentum was tested in the Divisional Round. Quarterback Bo Nix suffered a season-ending ankle injury against the Buffalo Bills, forcing the Broncos to adjust just one week before hosting the New England Patriots.

According to PFSN’s Bryce Lazenby, Nix had been a steady presence throughout the 2025 season, throwing for 3,931 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. His performance earned a 78.6 grade in PFSN’s QB Impact rankings, placing him 14th among 48 qualified passers.

Losing that production would typically be devastating, yet the response inside the locker room has been controlled rather than panicked.

Wide receiver Courtland Sutton made that mindset clear when addressing the injury. “You are sad, then you have to realize that we still have a job to do,” Sutton said, emphasizing confidence in the players stepping into larger roles.

He later added, “I have no doubt in my mind that Jarrett will be ready to go play. If there is a guy that prepares as well as Bo, it’s him.”

That confidence is built on familiarity and preparation. Stidham has been with the Broncos since 2023 and has spent extensive time working within the offense. While his resume includes only four career starts, Sutton highlighted his command of the playbook and consistent weekly reps.

From a production standpoint, Stidham’s career numbers reflect limited opportunity but steady efficiency. He is listed at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, throwing right-handed for the Broncos.

Across 20 career games, Stidham has completed 59.4 percent of his passes for 1,422 yards, averaging 7.2 yards per attempt, with 8 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. During the 2025 season, he has appeared in one game, finishing with a 59.4 percent completion rate and no touchdowns or interceptions.

Nix publicly echoed that trust in a message shared on Instagram, as reported by PFSN’s Caleb Yaccarino. “This is not how I imagined my season would come to an end, but our season has been defined by overcoming adversity and responding to it,” Nix wrote. He later added, “We’re not finished… we’re just getting started.”

From a schematic perspective, ESPN’s Bucky Brooks explained why Sean Payton remains confident in Stidham. Within Payton’s system, Stidham has shown comfort in quick-rhythm passing, accuracy on the move, and efficiency in high-percentage concepts.

His strong preseason performance and prior flashes have reinforced Payton’s belief that the offense can remain functional.

Facing a Patriots defense known for disguises and discipline, Stidham’s preparation and decision-making will be tested. Still, with the Broncos’ defense, ground game, and Payton’s experience tailoring game plans around his quarterback, the Broncos believe stability, not star power, may be enough to keep their magical season alive.
