Head Coach Brian Schottenheimer Praises the Leadership of Dak Prescott

At the NFL Annual League Meetings in Arizona, Schottenheimer gushed about what Prescott brings to the table with his leadership.

He compared the quarterback’s leadership to Brees, saying, “Well, I think I was fortunate enough to coach all those guys. They’re all amazing, they’re all different. I pull different things from different guys to this day. But Drew Brees was one of the first guys I coached.”

He added, “He and I became very close. We’re godparents, my wife and I, to their middle son Bowen. And I’ve always said, man, Drew Brees is one of the greatest leaders I’ve ever been around. And then I met Dak, and they’re on the same level, and I think that’s a compliment to both guys.”

Per PFSN’s QB Impact metrics, Prescott threw for 4,552 yards in 2025 with a 67.3% completion rate. In addition, he threw 30 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. He started all 17 games he played, completing 404 of 600 pass attempts. Also, he finished in the top 10, ranking 7th with an 83.4 QB Impact score.

Schottenheimer even praised Sam Bradford and Andrew Luck. “There are other guys on there that are deserving to be on that list, but for different reasons, Sam Bradford. I mean, Sam Bradford was maybe the purest passer I’ve ever been around. So how blessed am I to have that list of guys that I’ve done this with?”

For Schottenheimer to see Prescott’s leadership as like Brees’s speaks to the example Prescott has set within the Cowboys organization. The comments come in the midst of the quarterback’s split from now-former fiancée Sarah Jane Ramos about a month before they were set to get married.

The ex-couple went public with their romance in 2023 and announced their engagement in October 2024. A month before the engagement, Prescott signed a big four-year, $240 million extension with the Cowboys.

The ex-couple welcomed their firstborn daughter, Margaret Jane Rose Prescott, on February 22, 2024. A year later, they welcomed their second daughter, Aurora Rayne, on May 22, 2025. As the offseason continues, the Cowboys will look to have a better season and compete for a championship in 2026.

The Cowboys missed the playoffs in 2025, finishing with a disappointing 7-9-1 record. However, if Prescott can continue to lead the team the way Schottenheimer says he has, fans could be looking at the Cowboys as one of the top contenders for 2026.
