NFL Legend Rob Gronkowski Reveals 1 HC Candidate Who Would ‘Spice Up’ Bills After Sean McDermott’s Departure

Rob Gronkowski suggests a Sean McDermott replacement for the Bills that would shake things in 2026 as their next head coach.

Sean McDermott was fired by the Buffalo Bills following their disappointing loss to the Denver Broncos in the Divisional round of the NFL Playoffs. Early postseason exits have become a trend for them, despite having Super Bowl aspirations in recent years. Rob Gronkowski gave his take on the situation by suggesting one head coach candidate who would surely shake things up.

Who Did Rob Gronkowski Suggest as a ‘Spicy’ Sean McDermott Replacement for the Bills?

McDermott found plenty of success as the head coach of the Bills, but ultimately failed in their quest for the elusive Super Bowl. This likely played a major role in their decision to fire him and go in a different direction.

Gronkowski explained during an appearance on the “Up & Adams” show that they may need to seriously shake things up if they want to achieve their goals with Josh Allen still in his prime. He named one candidate who could potentially do so before the winning window closes for their 2024 NFL MVP quarterback.

“If there’s anyone out there that’s going to spice up this organization, it’s going to actually be Brian Daboll. He was already there previously and he got Josh Allen going, his career skyrocketed when Daboll was the offensive coordinator. I think he would be a very spicy hire for Buffalo,” stated Gronkowski.

Daboll was fired by the New York Giants this year amid another disappointing season, but his history in Buffalo makes him an intriguing candidate to replace McDermott. His success as the Bills offensive coordinator helped him to be hired as a head coach. Now that the position is open with his former team, a reunion would seem to make sense.

Cameron Wolfe recently reported that the Bills would interview Daboll as one of their potential candidates to replace McDermott. He is joined by Joe Brady, their current offensive coordinator, among several other candidates.

Maximizing their chances of winning a Super Bowl while Allen is still in his prime should be the Bills’ main goal. They have been close in recent years, but they have yet to emerge from the AFC playoffs. Allen has finished among the top three quarterbacks in PFSN’s Impact Rankings in each of the past six seasons, so theoretically pairing him with the right head coach could get them over the hump.

McDermott apparently wasn’t the right guy to do it, so they will seek a new head coach prior to 2026. According to Gronkowski, Daboll is the ideal candidate to shake things up, and his previous history with Allen and as a head coach may help his case for getting the job.
