Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach recently commented on the decision to bring back the legendary tight end.

Kelce has been one of the most productive tight ends in NFL history and has spent his entire career with the Chiefs. He is a franchise legend and is expected to be a first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer.
Many rumors swirled during the 2026 offseason that he would retire this year, especially after his contract with Kansas City expired. The two sides instead agreed to a new three-year deal for him to return to the team. Veach recently discussed having him back and speculated what his eventual retirement would mean for the franchise.
“He puts a smile on someone’s face every single day … He just keeps a positive and uplifting spin on everything he does. That’s one of the reasons why I’m glad he’s not retiring, but when he does, it’s going to be almost impossible to replace him,” stated Veach.

Most around the league assumed that if Kelce returned to the Chiefs, it would be on a one-year contract. Many were surprised at the new deal spanning three more seasons, as he appears committed to playing at this late stage of his career.
Veach praised Kelce for his leadership and attitude throughout the organization. The GM noted that the star is essentially impossible to replace when his run eventually ends.
In addition to his contributions in the locker room, Kelce has been one of the most dominant tight ends in the NFL for more than a decade.

He has made 11 consecutive Pro Bowls and has been selected as an All-Pro seven times while winning three Super Bowls with the Chiefs.
While his production has declined in recent seasons compared to his own elite standards, Kelce still finished 12th among all tight ends in PFSN’s Impact Rankings. He remains a key piece of the organization, and according to Veach, his presence is irreplaceable.
