Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Brenton Strange has been on the sidelines since suffering an injury against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Jags are looking better compared to previous seasons, and a consistent effort at their current pace could see them make a postseason appearance in January.
However, they’ll need as many of their weapons as possible to make it, and Strange has become a point of concern. So, let’s dive into the tight end’s injury status and look at his return timeline.
Will Jaguars TE Brenton Strange Feature in the Jaguars vs. Texans Game in Week 10?
After a stable start to the season, Strange suffered a setback during the Jaguars’ Week 5 Monday Night Football game against the Chiefs. A hip injury marked the end of his outing, which included one catch for 22 yards in the first half. He was checked out in the medical tent and appeared on the sideline after halftime without a helmet.
The next day, however, he was placed on IR due to a quad injury, with the expectation that it’s not a season-ending issue.
On October 10, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that Strange is set to miss at least five weeks, but the tight is unlikely to need surgery on his leg.
The injury marked an unfortunate ending to what could’ve been a promising season. Strange recorded 20 catches for 204 yards across five games before he got injured, which included a season high of 61 receiving yards against the Texans in Week 3.
In the tight end’s absence, head coach Liam Coen powered on with a combination of Hunter Long and Johnny Mundt, but the numbers haven’t been as consistent as Strange’s.
Jacksonville, at 5-3, is trying to keep pace with the Indianapolis Colts (7-2) in the AFC South to have a shot at the playoffs. At the moment, they’re contending for one of the last seeds as we enter the second half of the season. Consistency will be key, as they still have a handful of challenging games ahead.
The Texans are lurking, hoping to steal a win this week to close the 2-game gap between them and the Jags. In Week 11, they host one of the most electric offenses in the league in the LA Chargers, who have to fight hard to keep up in a hyper-competitive AFC West.
After that, their schedule includes the Colts twice and the Denver Broncos at Mile High. Strange’s healthy status will be a welcome sight in Jacksonville down the stretch.
