Breece Hall Sends Strong Message to Jets Teammates As RB’s Future in New York Remains Uncertain

There were talks of Breece Hall being traded around the NFL Draft, but those talks never came to fruition. The 24-year-old running back enters the final year of his rookie deal with the team, coming off a 2024 season where he regressed. With a new quarterback yet again, the New York Jets are looking to get Hall back on track as Braelon Allen remains RB2.

Breece Hall is Ready for Redemption in 2025

The Jets will see how Justin Fields can fare as the team’s QB after releasing Aaron Rodgers this offseason. Now a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Rodgers had a solid final year with the team, even though he wasn’t able to lead them to the promised land.

Jets fans are convinced it will never happen, but they have a running back who is confident and ready to prove himself in the final year of his deal.

“I’m not obligated to anything,” Hall said. “I’m around the new GM [Darren Mougey], new coaches, a lot of new faces. So, for me, I got to prove that I am the guy. That’s every day. I feel like my skill set, I’m a three-down back. We have a great running back room, and a lot of healthy competition.”

He continued, “But my mentality is every day I’m going to prove that I am the best back on this roster, one of the best backs in the league. I have a quote on my phone. It says, ‘If not me, then who?’ I look at it every morning. And that’s like my internal motivation because I’m very self-motivated.”

With 21-year-old Allen backing him up, the Wisconsin graduate proved that he has what it takes to do some damage in the league at a young age. Allen finished the 2024 season with 334 yards on 92 carries. Even though he averaged just 3.6 per carry, he had a pair of touchdowns and didn’t cough up the ball once. For Hall, that has been his biggest struggle.

After fumbling twice in the 2023 season, that number increased to five fumbles last year. With a total of seven fumbles in the last two seasons (eight counting another one he had after a reception), Hall is going to do everything he can to back up his claim that he’s one of the best running backs in the league. It’s a bold claim, but one that he’s ready to prove.

While it would have been easy for the Jets to trade Hall, they don’t have a proven RB1 on the roster. Allen could be ready for that spot, but it may be too soon in his career to tell. Isaiah Davis lines up as RB3 on the roster, as the 23-year-old averaged the most yards per carry (5.8) last season with his 30 attempts for 174 yards. This trio will return to the backfield in 2025, with Hall looking to earn a long-term extension.
