Three years ago this week, running back Breece Hall was coming off a historic college career at Iowa State and hoping to hear his name called at the 2022 NFL Draft. It eventually did, in the second round by the New York Jets.
A lot has changed since then, and now, Hall could be on the move. Rumors of the running back being on the trade block continue, and he did not help himself by taking to social media. With hours to go before the start of the 2025 NFL Draft, Hall reignited the rumors of him getting traded with a cryptic post.

Breece Hall Posts a Fingers-Crossed Emoji
On the evening of April 24, Hall took to X to tweet. His tweet only contained one character, though — a fingers-crossed emoji.

That ambiguous tweet led to speculation that he could be on the move during the draft. Rumors of Hall getting traded started after he had a disappointing year in 2024.
Several hours after Hall’s tweet, NFL insider Josina Anderson revealed this information. She reported that Hall has been made available via trade.
“Notebook: League source tells me they’ve heard about the potential* availability of #Jets RB Breece Hall ‘within the last week and a half.’”

Hall gave NFL fans a taste of his potential in his rookie season. He was logging an incredible 5.8 yards per carry on limited touches, along with four rushing touchdowns. However, an ACL and meniscus tear in Week 7 ended his campaign.
In his second season, Hall came back to play all 17 games. Yet, it was a disappointing year for New York, as Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles in the first game. The Jets leaned on Hall, as a result, and he came close to a 1,000-yard season, finishing with 994 yards rushing and five touchdowns.
As mentioned, though, Hall’s production dipped in 2024. His rushing attempts and yards per carry both decreased, and speculation started about the long-term status of Hall’s relationship with the Jets. The team relied on Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis to pick up some of the load and no longer leaned on Hall as the bell-cow back.
Jets Plan To Split Carries Next Season
New head coach Aaron Glenn has already indicated that he intends to allow all three running backs the chance to impress. It could be the start of an ominous exit for Hall, now the grizzled veteran in the running back room.
The Jets also pick at No. 7 overall, and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty could still be available. Following a historic season that saw him close to taking down Barry Sanders’ single-season rushing record, New York could be tempted to take Jeanty.
As for Hall, is he hoping to get traded? Or is he hoping the Jets won’t draft his replacement? The cryptic nature of his post makes it unclear.
