The Dallas Cowboys have major decisions to make during the 2026 NFL offseason with several of their key players pending free agency. One of them has been selected to the Pro Bowl and All-Pro team in each of the past three seasons. Their front office recently provided an update on where they currently stand with this star.
Cowboys All-Pro Star Receives an Update Amid His Pending Free Agency
Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ front office have been busy in the opening stages of the 2026 NFL offseason. They recently signed Javonte Williams to a contract extension, and many reports indicate they plan to use the franchise tag on George Pickens.
They also have a major decision to make on Brandon Aubrey, who has been one of the best kickers in the NFL during his three years in Dallas. He is on an expiring contract that would potentially make him a restricted free agent this year. Stephen Jones recently provided an update on how they will approach this situation.
“We’ve been working on a long-term deal for some time. We’ve exchanged offers and the goal is to get him signed … We’ll tender him before the deadline if that’s what we have to decide,” explained Jones.
It sounds as though Jones is planning to keep Aubrey in Dallas, and it’s surely encouraging that they claim to have been working on a long-term deal. Their apparent goal is to get it done before the free agency period officially opens, as they recently did with Williams as well. They also seem to be working towards the same goal with Pickens, but many rumors suggest a franchise tag is the most likely outcome for the wide receiver.
This trio contributed to the Cowboys’ biggest strength last season: their high-powered offense, which finished sixth in PFSN’s Impact Rankings. Pickens and Williams both excelled in their first year in Dallas, while Aubrey turned in a third consecutive elite season as a kicker. He has made the Pro Bowl and All-Pro team in all three of them, including once being a first-teamer.
The Cowboys are clearly aware of how much value Aubrey brings to their franchise as one of the best kickers in the NFL with one of the biggest legs of all-time. He is the only player in league history to successfully convert on six or more 60+ yard field goals, and he has already done so in just three seasons.
