‘Brandon Aiyuk Could Do the Funniest Thing’ — NFL Fans Eagerly Await WR’s Reaction to 49ers Owner Jed York’s Arrest

NFL fans immediately brought up Brandon Aiyuk after 49ers owner Jed York’s arrest added another bizarre chapter to San Francisco’s offseason.

The San Francisco 49ers have spent months waiting to see what Brandon Aiyuk might post next. Jed York’s stunning legal situation gave NFL fans a new reason to keep refreshing.

York was arrested Sunday in East Palestine, Ohio, initially on suspicion of engaging in prostitution. Court records show the charge was later amended to disorderly conduct, and the 49ers owner pleaded no contest Monday to that charge and a separate misdemeanor count of possessing criminal tools.

NFL Fans Immediately Bring Up Brandon Aiyuk

Considering how publicly Aiyuk has feuded with San Francisco this offseason, fans did not need much time to connect the two stories.

One reaction summed up the anticipation with a simple thought: “Brandon Aiyuk could do the funniest thing.”

Brendan Sugrue was among those joining the Aiyuk conversation on X, writing, “For the first time ever, I can’t wait to hear from Brandon Aiyuk.”

Another fan weighed in through a separate post, writing, “Brandon Aiyuk prolly loving this.”

The jokes make considerably more sense given what Aiyuk has spent the summer saying about his employer.

Aiyuk has repeatedly ripped the organization while pushing for his release. In June, he told the 49ers to “stop running from the bill,” insulted the team in a lengthy social media video and later declared that he would not return to the facility except as an opponent.

More reactions followed Monday, including posts from a user named Matt, who wrote, “Maybe Aiyuk knew something we didn’t calling the 49ers owners ‘creepy predators.'”

Longtime 49ers analyst Grant Cohn also chimed in to say, “Patiently waiting for Brandon Aiyuk to weigh in” about York’s arrest.

Another fan joined the pile-on in his reaction, writing, “Ik Brandon Aiyuk looking at this (expletive) rolling rn,” keeping the attention on whether Aiyuk might eventually say something himself.

Aiyuk and 49ers Have Been at War for Months

The relationship between Aiyuk and San Francisco has deteriorated dramatically since he signed a four-year, $120 million extension in 2024.

Aiyuk tore his ACL that October and did not play in 2025. The 49ers later voided roughly $27 million in 2026 guarantees after he stopped participating in required team activities, and he was placed on the reserve/left squad list in December.

Things became even stranger this offseason. Aiyuk publicly demanded his release, openly campaigned to join the Washington Commanders, and said he had no intention of returning to San Francisco.

York had previously taken a much softer public approach. At the NFL owners’ meetings in March, he said he would “love” to bring Aiyuk back and hoped to see him again.

Monday’s news flipped the social media dynamic. York, not Aiyuk, became the subject of embarrassing headlines after pleading no contest to two misdemeanors. ESPN reported that York was “sentenced to one day in jail for each charge, with one day already considered to be served,” and that he paid $1,150 in fines.

Aiyuk has not publicly reacted as of Monday afternoon, but judging by the response online, plenty of NFL fans are hoping he does.
