‘What About Brandon Aiyuk?’ ‘Trade for Kayshon Boutte’ — NFL Fans React As Klint Kubiak Expresses Concern for Raiders’ WR Room

Embracing a new beginning, Klint Kubiak isn't sure the Las Vegas Raiders have enough weapons in the wide receiver room.

The Las Vegas Raiders have embraced a new beginning this season. Bringing in Klint Kubiak alongside Fernando Mendoza as the first overall pick, while signing Kirk Cousins as a veteran presence, has given them a solid starting point.

But the roster is far from complete, with their new head coach sharing his concerns about the state of the wide receiver room. However, for most NFL fans, there are some easy fixes that the Raiders could adopt to fix those issues.

Klint Kubiak Has a Plethora of WR Options Outside Las Vegas

In recent years, the Raiders have gone through a variety of lineup changes. They have been infamous for fielding four different WR-QB combos in the first week of the season over the last four years.

But alongside that turnover, they’ve also lost some key wide receiver options like Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers. Now, the current wide receiver room is underwhelming, to say the least, with not a single player finishing higher than number 35 on PFN’s WR Impact Metric last season.

As a result, a candid Kubiak confessed about the current Raiders receivers: “We’ve got to get a lot better very fast. We took a step backwards; that doesn’t mean we can’t go forward, but right now we are trying to find someone that is accountable and can help us on Sunday.”

One fan suggested a major addition to the roster: “What about Brandon Aiyuk?”

The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver has been embroiled in a bitter, public feud with his team and is desperately seeking a new home.

But he comes with a ton of question marks after a series of bizarre social media videos. As a result, it might be understandable that the Raiders want to exercise some caution about bringing him in, especially after he missed the entirety of last season as well.

A hardcore fan, though, wasn’t taking any measures. Instead, he put together a comprehensive list of players that the Raiders could target, both via trade and in free agency, urging general manager John Spytek to make something happen.

“With Klint Kubiak seemingly not thrilled with the Raiders’ WR group so far, here are some names I could see being attainable over the next few weeks. Patriots WR Kayshon Boutte, Broncos WR Troy Franklin, Giants WR Darnell Mooney, Eagles WR Dontayvion Wicks, Browns WR Cedric Tillman, Titans WR Calvin Ridley, Panthers WR Xavier Legette.”

However, he didn’t see many free agents who could move the needle for the Raiders. “Free agent-wise, the only name I can really think of is Brandin Cooks. Certainly feels the Raiders will be doing something significant to address the room before week 1.”

It remains to be seen if any of his targets become an attraction for the franchise as well. But for most of the fan base, Kayshon Boutte was among the hottest names that they could target, with multiple posts calling for a trade.

As one exasperated fan called out, “Trade for Kayshon Boutte already,” another added, “Offer a second for Boutte then.”

With the Patriots trading for A.J. Brown over the summer, most fans believed that Boutte was a realistic target, adding, “Boutte is right there for you, bro.”

However, there were a few other targets that fans had also set their sights on. After trading Meyers to the Jacksonville Jaguars last season, one fan wanted the team to revisit a conversation with the AFC South franchise, this time centered on Brian Thomas Jr.

As he explained, “Trade for Brian Thomas. He needs out of JAX.”

After a disappointing second season, Thomas seemed like a prime candidate to be traded this offseason. However, the Jaguars have stuck by him, with head coach Liam Coen trying to bring the best out of him.

Some fans, though, went for a much bigger target, suggesting, “Trade for JJETTAS! Problem solved,” referring to the superstar Minnesota Vikings’ wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

It remains to be seen how the Raiders try to fix their wide receiver woes. For the time being, it looks like they will be moving forward with Cousins as their starting quarterback. But as Mendoza gets more comfortable and is eventually given the starting nod, he’ll need adequate weapons around him to make a mark.

As a result, the organization needs to assess the wide receiver room and add pieces that can help bring out the best in their potential franchise quarterback.
