The Dallas Cowboys’ offense looks unstoppable after a massive win on Thanksgiving. Not every pass can go to CeeDee Lamb, so digging a little deeper, would you start Brandin Cooks or Michael Gallup this week in fantasy football?
Should You Start Brandin Cooks or Michael Gallup for Fantasy Football in Week 13?
In the Pro Football Network Start/Sit Optimizer, PFN’s Consensus Rankings say fantasy managers should start Cooks. He is projected to have 9.7 fantasy points on 3.8 receptions and 47 receiving yards. Gallup is projected for 5.9 fantasy points on 2.2 receptions and 23.6 receiving yards.
I agree with the Optimizer and am starting Cooks over Gallup this week.
Fantasy Outlook for Cooks This Week
Cooks has started to come on strong over the last few weeks. Through Week 5, he never finished better than WR61. But, in Week 6, he was the WR18 against the Los Angeles Chargers, with 50 all-purpose yards and one TD. He continued the trend.
Over the last six games, he has been the WR34, and although that isn’t an every-week start ranking, it is certainly serviceable for a WR2 or a Flex spot. The trouble with Cooks is that when he has low weeks, they are quite low. Over the same six-week period, his lowest-producing game was in Week 9 when he was WR97.
Conversely, when Cooks hits, he hits. He is always a threat for a catch deep down the field, and in this potent Cowboys offense, he is a decent bet to hit on that. Fantasy managers just have to be okay with the chance of a down week if it comes.
Cooks is averaging just over five targets a game, and his snap percentage played has been increasing as of late, now averaging 70% snaps played.
Fantasy Outlook for Gallup This Week
Even though Dallas is currently a team on fire, it doesn’t mean that every player is a fantasy option, unfortunately. Gallup is an example of this and should only be started in the deepest of leagues and simply on the hope he catches a long TD pass.
Gallup is currently the WR70 on the season and has only had one finish better than WR29. That came in Week 10 when he was WR13 on two catches that gave him 70 yards receiving and one TD. Dallas only has him on the field for 57% of the snaps, and when deciding on who to start, fantasy managers should look for someone who has slightly more opportunity.
Gallup is the WR70 in PFN’s Consensus Rankings this week.
The Cowboys play the Seahawks this week, who have given up the 12th most fantasy points to opposing WRs. When deciding between Gallup and Cooks, I am going with Cooks. He is the WR38 in PFN’s Consensus Rankings.
