Things quickly went from bad to worse for the New York Jets as they searched for their first win of the season on the road against the Miami Dolphins. After fumbling near the goal line on their first drive, their kick return brought even more bad news for them.
A team heavily reliant on the run game, the Jets featured a trio of threats on the ground, with Braelon Allen providing some true physicality at the spot. However, it looks like the bruising running back may have suffered a serious injury early in the second quarter.
What Happened to Braelon Allen?
After the Dolphins quickly put up 10 points on the New York defense, the team was going to try to rally with a big kick return. However, as Allen caught the ball and tried to make a significant gain, he was tackled down hard near the 25-yard line.
Immediately, it became clear that something wasn’t right with Allen. Soon after, Al Butler confirmed on X, “Jets RB Braelon Allen was down for a bit, but is now limping to the sideline. Appears to be a leg issue.”

The true extent of his injury is currently unknown. But as he limped on the sideline, it was clear that the issue was bothering him significantly. The initial worry is that the injury could be related to his MCL, which would be a significant blow to New York’s running back room.
An excellent three-year career at Wisconsin paved the way for a fourth-round selection of Allen by the Jets in 2024. Even though he did not get a ton of runway in his rookie season, he still finished the year with 334 rushing yards and two touchdowns as the backup RB.
He also added 148 yards through the air, as he tried to become a difference-maker catching the ball out of the backfield. This season, he was off to a slow start with less than 100 total scrimmage yards through three games.
That seemed to be changing in Week 4, as he was already up to 26 yards on four carries when he went out with the injury, albeit including a brutal fumble that lost them the ball right next to the end zone.
Unfortunately, his designation for this week isn’t in question anymore, as Adam Schefter made the news official on X: “Jets RB Braelon Allen has been ruled out tonight due to a knee injury.”
The hope for New York has to be that his issue isn’t a lingering one that causes him to miss a significant amount of time moving forward.
Allen’s Injury’s Fantasy Impact
The Jets had been implementing their usual three-headed committee in this one. Breece Hall has run well, but he has yet to handle two touches in a row before ceding to one of Allen or Isaiah Davis.
This injury looks like one that will knock Allen out for the remainder of the game. That reduces this to just Hall and Davis, which will mean more volume for Hall. If Allen has to miss a couple of weeks, we will see Hall’s snap share increase.
He will go from a game script-dependent RB2 to a volume-based RB2. It would be a major surprise if the Jets continued a three-man backfield without Allen. Instead, it would be something like 70-30 between Hall and Davis. Fantasy managers should absolutely be considering adding Davis off the Week 5 waiver wire.
