Bears analyst Ben Devine erroneously reported on X that the franchise would be renamed the Indiana Bears. The Bears insider was forced to retract his explosive news just moments later.
“Retraction: I was duped. The source mentioned here, I now believe to be either fraudulent or intentionally manipulative. Someone went to immense lengths to verify identity for this one post – I’ve gotten no other info from him. I will not be posting any further stadium updates,” Devine revealed.
“I believe there will not be any name change, but will land in Indiana. I will delete the post shortly – after the retraction is seen. I am sorry and am owning it. Sticking to on-field drama. As always, enjoy the CHICAGO Bears!”

NFL fans on X mocked the Bears insider for his huge gaffe:
Damian Flores blasted Devine for reporting the name change, which was obviously fake.
“You’ve been a joke about this the whole time. Everyone knew this was fake as (expletive) once you posted it. Clown (expletive),” Flores wrote.

A user on X ‘Slav Costas’ piled on Devine for his reporting on the Bears news and said, “AND THE DORK OF THE DAY WINNER GOES TO: Don’t backtrack now pal.”
Bears Blog Boy’s account on X offered advice to Devine and wrote, “Maybe hang up the insider cleats, bro. Bro, you are 0/2.”

Matt Lindner blasted Devine for failing to spot the obvious fake news from his insider source. He said, “The only time (expletive) has ever been called faster is when someone actually saw a bull take a (expletive), man.”
Shomari Ewing accused Devine of making up the outrageous news for clicks and wrote, Bro, you are just making all this (expletive) up for clicks. I hate what the internet has become now.”

One user named ‘Soongju’ questioned Devine’s journalistic credentials for the huge gaffe and wrote, “No wonder this dude is banned from even being posted on Reddit lol. (expletive) journalist.”
According to ESPN, Indiana has guaranteed the franchise a tax assurance and offered up to $1 billion in incentives to build its new ground in Hammond.
On the other hand, Illinois lawmakers failed to pass legislation allowing the Bears to pay a lump sum instead of property taxes. The Bears have never played their home games outside of Illinois since their inception.
President/CEO Kevin Warren revealed that the Bears had completed due diligence on the Lost Marsh site in Hammond and were also conducting due diligence on the Wolf Lake Terminal site.
