The new NFL league year has officially begun, and all previously agreed-upon contracts and trades can be finalized. This also allowed some teams to finalize the release of certain players from their rosters. One big name released on Wednesday was Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray.
He immediately goes to the top of the free agent QB list and should have a significant market among QB-needy teams. While Murray has not lived up to the expectations of a first-overall pick, he has been a solid quarterback and could benefit from a change of scenery.
Former NFL Defensive Back Makes Bold Kyler Murray Prediction for Minnesota Vikings
It appears the team at the top of the list to try to sign Murray is the Minnesota Vikings. They are not fully sold on J.J. McCarthy being their franchise quarterback, and Murray would be an upgrade.
Former NFL DB Dominque Foxworth thinks the Vikings could be one of the best teams in the NFC if they acquire Murray. Foxworth said on “Get Up” on Wednesday, “If Kyler Murray can play his best football … for an extended period of time, they are as good as the Rams.”
“If they can find a way to sustain that success that he’s had. … we’re looking at the best team, right up there with the Rams, in the NFC.”

Minnesota has a very good defense, and that should remain the case once it can retain defensive coordinator Brian Flores this offseason. The Vikings’ offense is one reason they finished 8-9. The team had a PFSN Offense Impact Score of 66.0 this past season, which was the fifth-worst in the NFL.
The Vikings have a good group of skilled players waiting to be unleashed by the right quarterback.
Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, T.J. Hockenson, and Aaron Jones are a great supporting cast to work with. Also, head coach and playcaller Kevin O’Connell is one of the best in the NFL.
Something else the Vikings need to consider is the talent on their own division’s teams and quarterbacks. The Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, and Detroit Lions all have franchise quarterbacks and among the better offenses in the NFC. The Vikings know they need to find a way to keep up with those teams, and Murray can help them do that.
The last time the Vikings took on a one-year rental quarterback was two seasons ago when they signed Sam Darnold. He took the Vikings to the playoffs and then got a massive contract with the Seattle Seahawks. Murray seems to be in a similar position to Darnold, as he could remake himself in Minnesota before getting a big contract next offseason.
