The Buffalo Bills have finally done it; they have traded for a receiver. After many names being floated around, the Bills are trading for Chicago Bears’ wide receiver DJ Moore.
The lack of offensive weapons for quarterback Josh Allen was a major weakness for the Bills in 2025. While Moore definitely gives that room a boost, who else is on that depth chart?
The Impact of the DJ Moore Addition on the Bills’ Depth Chart
After Stefon Diggs left Buffalo at the end of the 2023 season, the Bills have struggled at the wide receiving position. After the Bills got a receiver in Moore to help out Allen, what does the Bills’ wide receiver depth chart look like? Plus, how much does he truly change the landscape here?
DJ Moore
After being drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2018 and traded to the Bears in 2023, Moore has faced barriers to reaching his potential.
In Carolina, he had constant change at the QB position. However, now Moore gets to play with Allen, one of the best quarterbacks in the game. Moore’s great deep route running, plus Allen’s rocket arm, could create many big plays in Joe Brady’s offense. In Chicago, Moore had other receivers to compete with, including Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III.
However, now in Buffalo, Moore will be the number one receiver. Moore has posted multiple 1,000-yard seasons in his career, demonstrating that he is a do-it-all receiver. He has a great mix of speed and strength and should help boost Buffalo’s offense to the next level. With all the focus on Moore and a great support around him, Moore could turn into a top receiver.
Khalil Shakir
Since joining the Bills, Khalil Shakir has been a crafty receiver after the catch, dazzling defenders with his speed and acceleration. He averages an impressive 11.7 yards per catch.
However, Shakir has struggled at times getting open and has been inconsistent. This is shown by his highest season total of 821 yards, and last year, he received a C+ grade for PFSN WR’s Impact. With Moore joining and defenses focusing on him, opportunities may open up for Shakir. He could have chances he hasn’t seen before and may have a breakout season.
Keon Coleman
After getting drafted in Round 2 by the Bills in 2024, there was a lot of hype that Keon Coleman could be Allen’s new number one. Coleman’s rookie year had its ups and downs. Coleman had only 556 yards on the season, whereas his freshman classmates, such as Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr., each had over 1,000 receiving yards.
However, Coleman had some good games, recording 5 games over 50 yards, including a 125-yard game against the Tennessee Titans. So, there was hope that Coleman could build upon things in year two. Year two kicked off to a great start as he had 112 yards on 8 catches as the Bills came back and beat the Baltimore Ravens.
After a great game one, the rest of the season was rough for the year two receiver. Coleman never had a game with over 50 yards the rest of the year, and he missed several games due to injuries.
Additionally, at a postseason press conference, Bills Owner Terry Pegula said that the coaching staff pushed for Coleman’s draft choice, not what management would have wanted. However, Moore could provide the mentorship and leadership that Coleman needs to reach his potential.
Curtis Samuel
Moore is not the only former Panther receiver on the Bills’ depth chart. Before he joined the Bills, Curtis Samuel spent time with the Panthers and the Washington Commanders. While he has never hit 1,000 yards in a season, Samuel is a shifty player. In many ways, Samuel is very similar to Khalil Shakir.
Samuel was targeted only nine times last year, and with Moore coming in, that number could go down further. However, with Samuel’s veteran suaveness, he could make some big plays in big moments. A trait that is valuable for a Bills team that is trying to capture a Lombardi.
Overall, Moore not only deepens the roster as a great player, but also gives other receivers room to grow and develop. Buffalo added a top playmaker, an important step toward trying to help the Bills win their first Super Bowl.
