The Buffalo Bills lost against the Denver Broncos on Saturday, ending their 2025 run on a sour note. The Bills committed five turnovers and lost in overtime, as the Broncos scored a game-winning field goal on their second possession.
Were The Bills Robbed Of A Possession Against The Denver Broncos?
During overtime, one controversial play decided the game. Josh Allen threw a deep pass that wide receiver Brandin Cooks and cornerback Ja’Quan McMillian contested. It was unclear who had possession until the final moments, when McMillian emerged with the ball. The referees ruled an interception.
The images made it seem that Cooks never completed the catch, based on the required elements. As such, when McMillian caught the ball in his hands, it was an official interception. The referees shared the same view, but Bills fans complained loudly about the call.
This includes Rachel Bush, the wife of safety Jordan Poyer, a longtime member of the Bills. Bush complained on her Twitter account that the referees’ decision stripped the Bills of a chance to win the game.
She wrote, “I don’t care what happened before that play. The Bills did everything they needed to do to get to the end with a very clear chance to win the game. We were a FG away from a win when a ref’s decision stripped us of that. The catch, by NFL guidelines, was very clearly that-a catch.”

That was the final possession of the season for the Bills. The Broncos moved the ball after the turnover and kicked the game-winning field goal.
One factor in Buffalo’s loss was its carelessness with the ball. They committed five turnovers during the game, considering fumbles and interceptions. The Broncos have one of the best defenses in the league, and points were left on the board as a result.
It was not the best game of Allen’s career. He threw nine deep passes (when the ball traveled over 20 yards) during the game. None resulted in completion, and two were intercepted.
The Broncos won the game, but their mission in the AFC Championship Game will be extremely tough. Bo Nix, ranked No. 14 in the PFSN NFL QB Impact Metric, will miss the rest of the postseason after suffering an ankle injury in the second-to-last play of the game. He’ll have surgery on his ankle.
