Josh Allen has been setting the NFL on fire over the past few seasons, but even the most talented quarterbacks need reliable weapons to reach their full potential. The Buffalo Bills understand this reality, so they’ve made a move that should excite fans who remember some of the franchise’s most thrilling playoff moments.
Why Did the Buffalo Bills Bring Back Gabe Davis?
Free agent wide receiver Gabe Davis, who has 29 career touchdown receptions to his name, has rejoined the Bills. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter broke the news on Tuesday with a post on X.

Davis will start on the Bills’ practice squad during the 2024 season as he recovers from a torn meniscus. This approach allows him to regain his game shape while getting reacquainted with the system that helped launch his NFL career.
The Bills originally drafted Davis as a fourth-round pick (128th overall) in the 2020 NFL Draft. After spending his first four seasons with the Bills, he moved on to the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2024 campaign.
However, his familiarity with head coach Sean McDermott’s system and the Bills’ offensive schemes gives him a significant advantage as he works toward rejoining the active roster.
What Makes Gabe Davis Special for Josh Allen?
Bills fans will never forget Davis’ four-touchdown game in an AFC playoff matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs on Jan. 23, 2022. In that unforgettable performance, Davis hauled in eight catches for 201 yards and those four touchdowns, becoming the first player in NFL history to catch four touchdown passes in an NFL playoff game. Despite Davis’ heroics, the Bills fell to the Chiefs 42-36 in overtime.

Over his 74 career NFL games, Davis has 183 catches for 2,969 yards and 29 touchdowns. His 16.2 yards per reception average shows his ability to create big plays downfield, which Allen probably loves about Davis’s playing style.
Davis’ 2024 season with Jacksonville was limited. He started only nine games while catching 20 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns. The torn meniscus affected his availability and production, making his recovery process crucial for his return to the Bills.
The reunion makes sense for both sides. Davis already knows the Bills’ offensive concepts and has proven chemistry with Allen. At the same time, the Bills add a receiver with big-play capability who won’t need extensive time to learn the system. For Buffalo fans, Davis’ return offers hope that more playoff magic could be on the horizon when he’s ready to retake the field.
