Justin Jefferson is in the middle of his worst NFL season, and it has far more to do with Minnesota’s quarterback carousel than anything he’s done wrong. The Vikings haven’t found any rhythm under center, and it’s dragged down the production of one of the league’s best receivers.
Jefferson has 799 yards and just 2 touchdowns through 12 games. Solid numbers, but nowhere near his usual standard. He ranks only 12th in receiving yards, and a stunning 85 players have more touchdowns. With J.J. McCarthy and Max Brosmer struggling and Carson Wentz out for the year, the QB uncertainty raises real questions about Jefferson’s future if things don’t improve soon. That’s where the idea of the Buffalo Bills comes up.
NFL Analyst Says Josh Allen Could Partner With Justin Jefferson
The Bills have made the playoffs in the last six seasons. However, with quarterback Josh Allen on the roster, they failed to convert those appearances into a Super Bowl berth. Four of those losses came at the hands of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
One of the problems for Buffalo in 2025 has been the wide receiver room. With Jefferson seemingly unhappy with his situation in Minnesota, PFSN analyst Jacob Infante wrote about how the Bills could be a possible destination for Jefferson in case he asks to be moved:
“One area of improvement is their wide receiver room. They’ve been lacking a true No. 1 receiver since they traded Stefon Diggs in 2024. Khalil Shakir is a perfectly capable complementary weapon, but Buffalo doesn’t have a star pass-catcher on their offense to instill fear into opposing offenses. Allen has been an MVP before with a middling supporting cast. Imagine what he could do with an elite WR1 like Jefferson.”
Infante highlights how a trade would be difficult to orchestrate due to financial reasons, with the Vikings taking a $33 million cap hit in 2027 even if they pull off a post-June 1 trade. However, Jefferson’s concerns with McCarthy and the team’s lack of competitiveness could result in a split.
Jefferson’s impact diminished in 2025 with the changes at quarterback. He currently sits at No. 33 in our PFSN WR Impact Metric, posting just a 77.1 grade. His average of 66.6 yards per game is his lowest number since he joined the league, and he has crossed the 1,000-yard mark in every season, including 2023, when he played in just 10 games due to an injury.
Jetta is unlikely to be moved. However, the NFL has repeatedly assured us that nothing is impossible, with examples such as the DeAndre Hopkins trade in 2020, which resulted from his fallout with Bill O’Brien, demonstrating that even seemingly improbable things can happen.
The Bills’ best receiver in 2025, Khalil Shakir, has just 569 yards and 3 touchdowns in 12 games.
