NFL offseason chatter is heating up once again, as a blockbuster trade is on the table, and there’s a call for the Buffalo Bills to get involved. It might be Draft Week, but the wheels of industry are still turning around the NFL as teams load up ahead of the new season. Trade rumors are swirling, and the latest one involves three powerhouse teams.
Bills Should Hijack Blockbuster Trade Between Eagles and Patriots, Says Ex-NFL GM
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown once again finds himself amid trade speculation, with the latest talks linking him to the New England Patriots. The Pats are coming off a season in which they fell short of winning another Super Bowl, and they’re reasonably ambitious about coming back stronger in 2026.
As such, they’re said to be in the running to acquire Brown’s services from the Eagles. Former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum, however, believes it would be in the Bills’ best interest to hijack the Brown’s potential move to the Patriots. He talked about the scenario on ESPN’s “Get Up.”
“I saw [Eagles GM] Howie Roseman starting to negotiate in public about where they are with A.J. Brown and the Patriots,” Tannenbaum said. “And if I’m the Buffalo Bills, it is discernibly a two-team race in the AFC East — Miami and the Jets clearly rebuilding. And the worst-case scenario for the Bills is not to get A.J. Brown, it’s if he goes to New England, because now we have to cover him twice a year.”
The Bills acquired wideout D.J. Moore from the Chicago Bears this offseason to bolster a receiving corps that’s been lacking star power since Stefon Diggs was traded. While Moore should add sufficient value in the passing game, the unit still lacks a clear star receiver.
“To me, D.J. Moore is a good start, he’s a solid B, but if we can go get A.J. Brown,” Tannenbaum added. “Again, last year, [the Bills] were 15th in the league in passing yards per game. Great offense, but their passing attack needs help. So not only do I wanna keep A.J. Brown away from the New England Patriots, I wanna add him to the Bills and give our quarterback a chance to win it all.”
In a loaded AFC, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, LA Chargers, and others, clinching the division will be key in securing a playoff spot for the Bills. The road to the postseason might very well start with some sharp business acumen before the season even begins.
According to PFSN’s WR Impact Metric, Brown has finished among the top-10 wideouts in the league in three of the last four seasons in the NFL. Last season, he had an impact score of 80.9, ranking 21st, but he can return to the top positions if he plays with the Patriots or Bills.
In 2024, Brown, who is 28 years old, signed a three-year, $96 million extension with the Eagles and is under contract till the 2029 NFL season. So whichever team trades for him will get him at a good value in possibly the last few productive years of his career.
