The trade season came about in a hurry for the NFL. Before the official free agency window begins, a ton of blockbuster moves have already come to pass, with names like Trent McDuffie finding new homes.
However, a perennial contender like the Buffalo Bills also bit the bullet and brought in a star receiver for Josh Allen. One league veteran, though, doesn’t believe it was the right move from the franchise, especially with the other wide receivers on the market.
Buffalo Bills Chose the Wrong Guy for Josh Allen
After a demoralizing playoff loss to the Denver Broncos, the Bills have undergone a radical transformation in the offseason. Parting ways with longtime head coach Sean McDermott, they elevated Joe Brady to the role.
Now, their next major move was adding some help for Allen in the receiving room. As a result, they were willing to part ways with a second-round pick to bring in an established name like DJ Moore to the table.
Former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker turned sports media analyst Emmanuel Acho, however, did not think it was a good deal for Buffalo. His main reasoning centered on a better player, like A.J. Brown, still being available as a potential trade piece.
“To me, this is a really good receiver but it’s not a generational receiver. DJ Moore is a really good receiver. But if you’re the Bills and if you finna swing, swing for the fences. If you’re the Bills and you swing, knock it out the park. If you go swing, take the A.J. Brown swing,” Acho said, before finishing it off by adding, “To me, this was a conservative move.”
During their careers, Brown has had a wildly more productive stint in the NFL than Moore. Despite coming into the league a year later, Brown has three Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections compared to none for Moore.
Even on the raw numbers, he’s less than 200 yards shy while having 15 more touchdowns in 26 fewer games. Even in a supposedly down 2025 campaign, he ranked at number 21 on PFSN’s WR Impact, considerably higher than Moore, who was at 73 himself.
As a result, Acho’s rationale isn’t completely out of the picture. Even though he may have come at a higher asking price, Buffalo has already shown it’s nearing desperation when it comes to the construction timeline.
A move for Brown, if he were to become available, would give the offense a bigger jolt and give Allen the kind of reliable weapon he’s lacked in recent years.
