Bills GM Brandon Beane Makes Feelings Clear on Keon Coleman’s Future Amid Growing Criticism of WR

Bills general manager Brandon Beane cleared the air at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine when asked about WR Keon Coleman and his future in Buffalo.

The Buffalo Bills continue to fall short of their Super Bowl dreams year after year. It has led to not only frustrations but also surprising decisions. One of those shocking decisions was the move to fire head coach Sean McDermott. In addition, the comments made by owner Terry Pagula about wide receiver Keon Coleman drew their own attention.

GM Bradon Beane Addressed Where Keon Coleman Fits on the 2026 Bills Roster

Coleman was selected by the Bills in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft and his time in the league has been marred by controversy. The issue began with the draft as the Bills chose to trade back, allowing the Kansas City Chiefs to pick Xavier Worthy, the San Francisco 49ers to draft Ricky Pearsall, and the Carolina Panthers to select Xavier Legette.

After the seaon Pegula told the media it was the coaching staff that pushed them to draft Coleman, not Beane. However, Beane noted that he could have just as likely made that himself if he felt Coleman was the best fit.

Beane told the media, “Every game he’s missing, the trust and camaraderie is kind of dropping for him. Like that’s just the truth. And I don’t know that that fully ever recovered.”

During his time with the Bills, Coleman has been inconsistent. He was disciplined by McDermott in November of 2025 for tardiness to a meeting and was a healthy scratch for four different games.

In addition, he failed to rack up more than 50 receiving yards in a game since the 2025 season, 112 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Beane went on to explain that they are tasked with finding a receiver who gives quarterback Josh Allen just what he needs.

“Like any quarterback [Allen] wants ’em to be where they’re supposed to be when they’re supposed to be, and he wants ’em dependable,” Beane said. “Obviously, he wants them to catch the ball, but Josh is usually ‘give me what you got, and I’ll make the most of it.’ And so, I think it’s my job and our job to find as many versatile skill sets at receiver as we can.”

For the 2025 season, PFSN’s Wide Receiver Impact metric gave Coleman a grade of C-, with a score of 71.3. That ranked him 75th in the league. In the 13 games he played during the year, he never had a grade above a C+. That C+ came during Week 1 when Coleman had his best game of the season.
