Bill Belichick is considered by many to be the greatest coach in NFL history. He was first eligible to be selected for the Pro Football Hall of Fame during the 2026 offseason, but he didn’t receive enough votes to be a first-ballot inductee. President Donald Trump recently commented on the shocking snub.
What Did President Donald Trump Say About Bill Belichick’s Hall of Fame Snub?
Belichick is one of the most successful coaches in NFL history. This is demonstrated by an all-time record of eight Super Bowl rings, including six as the head coach of the New England Patriots and two as the New York Giants defensive coordinator.
He is also one of only three head coaches ever, along with Don Shula and George Halas, to win more than 300 regular-season games, while his 31 playoff wins are the most in league history.
All of this clearly suggests that he belongs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and most would assume him to be an obvious first-ballot selection. The voters apparently disagree, as he was snubbed in his first attempt during the 2026 offseason. President Donald Trump made his opinion of the situation clear and also blasted the NFL in his statement.
“It is the same mindset that gave pro football the new and unwatchable ‘Sissy’ Kickoff Rule, that made it possible for Bill Belichick to not be elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Both are ridiculous and should be overturned,” exclaimed Trump.
Belichick is no longer coaching in the NFL, departing the league to become the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels in college football. He is often rumored to potentially make a comeback at some point, but even if he doesn’t, he has nothing left to prove in terms of his legacy. President Trump obviously believes the snub is ridiculous, and his incredible success, especially in New England, makes it a fair point.
His dynastic run with the Patriots was absolutely legendary, including winning six Super Bowl rings and nine AFC Championships across more than two decades of dominance. He was named the Coach of the Year three times during this span, which coincided with Tom Brady becoming the GOAT in most fans’ opinions.
Brady finished among the top ten quarterbacks in PFSN’s QB Impact Rankings 13 times in his 18 completed seasons with the Patriots. He and Belichick built two of the greatest careers in NFL history, and together they achieved unprecedented success.
