The Jacksonville Jaguars have gotten a renaissance season from Travis Etienne this season. However, they also have another potential star on the roster in the form of rookie running back Bhayshul Tuten, who they added in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
While he’s not been the bellcow for the offense, his role is slowly starting to increase, and he’s shown a lot to be impressed about. Unfortunately, an injury took him out of the game in Week 11. Now, his status and return remain a major talking point as the team gears up to face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 12.
When Will Bhayshul Tuten Return?
In his final year at Virginia Tech, Tuten put together a spectacular campaign, tallying 1,159 yards and 15 touchdowns at an impressive 6.3 yards per carry. It certainly caught the attention of the new coaching staff in Jacksonville, who added him to the roster.
However, through the majority of his rookie season, he has served as a backup to Etienne, who has 154 carries compared to Tuten’s 60, while also severely outpacing him in rushing yards, 729 to 238.
In the win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 11, though, Tuten was getting a significantly bigger workload. Setting his season-high for rushing attempts, he added 74 yards and a rushing touchdown in just 15 carries.
His numbers could have been even better, but an ankle injury took him out of the game, and a comfortable lead meant that his questionable-to-return status eventually saw him stay on the sidelines for the rest of the evening.
After the game, Tuten confirmed that he felt “good” to reporters in the locker room. However, athletes can often underestimate the nature and extent of their injuries. As a result, a clear picture hasn’t been made about where his health stands.
With the Jaguars in the thick of the playoff race and the division lead seemingly out of their reach, given the success of the Indianapolis Colts, every game is going to be vitally important for them.
Next week, Arizona offers a chance to strengthen its hold over a Wild Card playoff spot, especially with teams like the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens lurking in the background.
As things currently stand, Tuten (23) is just six spots behind Etienne (17) on PFSN’s RB Impact. Without him in the lineup, Jacksonville might turn to LeQuint Allen to serve as the backup behind their star running back.
It might be enough to drag them past the Jaguars, but at this point in the season, the team cannot afford to miss their rookie running back for an extended period of time, especially as he seems to be rounding into form at just the right time.
