Bengals Announce Concerning Tee Higgins Injury Update After Scary Week 14 Moment vs. Bills

What's the latest injury update on Bengals' Tee Higgins following a knock vs. the Bills in Week 14. Is he fit to play vs. the Ravens in Week 15?

A critical December road game turned into a new health concern for the Cincinnati Bengals’ No. 2 receiver. Tee Higgins re-entered the NFL’s concussion protocol after Week 14, hours after twice striking his head on the turf in the loss to the Buffalo Bills, undergoing two in-game sideline evaluations, and returning each time.

With playoff math tightening, the Bengals now face a short week and a medical timeline that supersedes competitive urgency ahead of their Week 15 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.

Tee Higgins Injury Update Ahead of Week 15

Head coach Zac Taylor confirmed the postgame development and outlined the next steps. “Tee Higgins is back in concussion protocol. Came into the facility today not feeling great. He’s doing the right thing to go into protocol.”

The NFL and NFLPA added, “Tee Higgins was evaluated twice in game and cleared to return. After the game, in discussion with club medical personnel as part of a postgame evaluation, he notified the team he was experiencing symptoms and was immediately placed in the concussion protocol.”

Higgins explained why he kept playing after each in-game check: “I’m a team-first guy,” he said. “My team needed me – I feel like they did – so I went out there and played. Tried to dog this out with my team. I’m a soldier. Soldiers take hits. It happens, it’s football, it’s the name of the game. Got to get up. Next play mentality.”

This is Higgins’ second protocol entry in three weeks and third of his career. He missed Week 13 after a Week 12 concussion, cleared on Friday, then produced six catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns against the Bills before reporting symptoms postgame. His Week 15 availability is now subject to daily medical evaluation.

The league’s return-to-play pathway requires progression through five stages, overseen by both club and independent authorities: symptom-limited activity, aerobic exercise, football-specific exercise, club-based non-contact training drills, and full football activity/clearance.

Independent neurological consultant approval is mandatory before a player is cleared for game action. Higgins has already completed these steps between Week 12 and Week 14; he must repeat the process, starting at the stage appropriate to his current clinical status. The protocol’s structure governs timelines irrespective of opponent or schedule.

When Will Tee Higgins Return? Possible Return Date and Timeline

There is no set timetable for concussion clearance; it depends on symptom resolution and successive stage sign-offs. Entering the protocol on Monday compresses the window before Sunday’s rematch with the Ravens. Practice participation (DNP/limited/full) and daily evaluations will indicate progress; however, final availability depends on completing all stages and obtaining independent clearance.

The Bengals must also strike a balance between medical guidance and roster planning as the playoff path narrows. If Higgins cannot clear in time, the Bengals will adjust their personnel and usage, with medical priority taking precedence over competitive targets. Currently, Tee Higgins is ranked 35th in PFSN’s WR Impact Metric.

Higgins’ season-to-date production underscores the impact of his potential absence: he leads Cincinnati in receiving touchdowns and explosive (20-plus yard) catches, and his Week 14 two-score performance showed his importance to the offense’s vertical game.

The team’s playoff scenario requires wins down the stretch; however, the protocol dictates when, and if, Higgins is available in Week 15. Official practice reports and final game status will provide the following updates as the week progresses.
