This Cincinnati Bengals legend knows the team needs to make a move at quarterback. With QB Joe Burrow suffering his third major injury in six seasons, it may be time for Cincinnati to move on from QB Jake Browning. Browning has sufficed in the past, but this season is a different story. It may be too soon to judge, but their 48-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings was far from an ideal start.
Chad Johnson Hints at the Bengals Bringing QB Russell Wilson to Cincinnati
Ian Rapoport posted Mike Garafolo’s story for NFL.com, which recapped everything behind Russell Wilson’s benching. Rookie QB Jaxson Dart is taking over in New York, a move many Giants fans knew was coming sooner rather than later. Wilson, who threw for 450 yards in Week 2, faced a harsh reality as the Giants started 0-3. Despite being benched, he’s held his head high and is expected to mentor Dart.
That said, Garafolo and Rapoport believe Wilson will be one of the top trade candidates heading into the deadline. Plenty of teams are dealing with QB injuries: Washington Commanders, San Francisco 49ers, New York Jets, Minnesota Vikings, among others. Wilson, an experienced veteran, is a player that Johnson hinted at coming to Cincinnati.
“Moon balls to Chase & Higgins?” Johnson asked in response to Rapoport’s post. The replies indicate Bengals fans would rather pass, though it’s worth looking at Browning vs. Wilson. Wilson has proven success, but his struggles have been real.

Somehow, Browning led the Bengals to victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars despite throwing three interceptions. He ended up throwing two more in the team’s 38-point loss to the Vikings.
Wilson, on his third team in the past three seasons, could be well on his way to a fourth. Since departing from Seattle, he’s struggled to find any sort of success. The 36-year-old took over from QB Justin Fields last season, a decision that may have cost the Denver Broncos their season. Wilson was 65/110 for 778 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions in three starts with the Giants. He earned a D in PFSN’s QB Impact.
Entering Week 4, Browning is 40/59 for 381 yards, three touchdowns, and five interceptions. He’s only played in roughly one and a half games, though those numbers are quite alarming. WR Ja’Marr Chase had just five receptions for 50 yards against the Vikings in week 3. Johnson mentioned Higgins, the team’s WR2, who had just one reception for 15 yards last week.
