Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams flourished during his second season in the league as one of the most improved players in the NFL last year. Williams’ impressive season was rewarded when he was featured on the cover of the prestigious Madden NFL 27.
Fans Erupt at Ben Johnson’s Reaction to Caleb Williams’ Madden Cover
While speaking to reporters, Bears coach Ben Johnson addressed Williams being featured on the cover of Madden NFL 27.
“I saw it this morning; no reaction,” Johnson said. “I think he’s (Williams) wired the right way. He wants to be great. When that’s the case, you can coach him hard… So you coach him just like you coach all the rest of the guys. And he wants that, he wants to be coached the same.”
Bears fans on X had mixed reactions to Johnson’s typically hard-nosed reaction to his star quarterback being splashed on the cover of the popular game:
‘Talk Ball’ lauded Johnson for focusing on molding Williams into a better quarterback rather than his appearance on a video game cover. “Ben is focused on winning games and making Caleb a complete QB. The Madden cover is for fans,” the account wrote.
The co-host of Bears Fan TV, ‘Dave,’ was pumped by Johnson’s unyielding focus on what matters, rather than on Williams’ off-field moves.

Bears fans ‘A Monster of the Midway 1985’ was pumped by the potential of Johnson and Williams to become even better in the future. The account wrote, “LET ICEMAN AND COACH JOHNSON BE GREAT!!!!!”

Another account on X said this about Johnson, “This dude is crazy as f**k, and I love it.”
I love Ben Johnson but kind of a hardo move. Kind of also want my coach to be a hardo. He’s gotta be a terrible hang off the football field. https://t.co/BKevwb5kzo

‘Sik Wit It’ was just glad that the Bears coach had returned to his usual self with the terse answer regarding Williams being on the Madden cover. “Ben legit had me nervous with all that smiling shit he was doing last week. Glad we’re back to normal,” he posted.
Under Johnson’s leadership, Williams rejuvenated the Bears, leading them to their first division title in seven years and their first postseason win in 15 years. The Bears also improved from a measly 5-12 record in Williams’ first season to 11-6 in his second season.
Williams earned a PFSN QB Impact score of 75.9, good for No. 20 in the league after tallying 3,942 passing yards on 58.1% completion, 27 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions, while adding 388 rushing yards and 3 scores during the regular season.
