Aside from the birth of his children, the greatest day of Ben Affleck’s life involved catching passes from Tom Brady.
The two-time Oscar winner appeared on the latest episode of “New Heights” with Jason and Travis Kelce and talked about his experience with the former Patriots and Buccaneers quarterback.
Ben Affleck’s Hollywood Dream: Catching a Super Bowl Pass From Tom Brady
Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl champion, needed someone to play catch with and called Affleck, who was vacationing in the same place.
Affleck’s favorite moment from the experience involved Brady creating a dream Super Bowl scenario: Fourth quarter. Twenty-three seconds. Fourth-and-18.
The American actor and filmmaker was told to run straight and not turn around. He followed the directions of the NFL’s all-time passing leader and took off. He never looked back and wondered when the ball was coming. He eventually felt it closing in. The pass was a little far, which Affleck blamed on his lack of speed, but he was able to extend his arms and make the catch.

“It was incredible,” Affleck said. “I called everybody I knew. But it was like the nicest thing anyone’s ever done for me and I lived a full life of dreams right? In that whatever it was – hour of playing catch.”
Jason Kelce compared the moment to a famous scene in the movie “The Sandlot,” when Benny Rodriguez told Smalls to stick his glove in the air and he would take care of the rest. Rodriguez hit the ball right into Smalls’ glove.
Affleck and Brady were both born in nearby areas in California. Affleck, 52, is from Berkeley, while Brady, 47, was born in San Mateo. The two cities are located near San Francisco and separated by about 30 miles.
The two also have a connection to the Boston area. Affleck’s family moved to Massachusetts when he was a child and the area has remained important to him. He wrote the screenplay for “Good Will Hunting” and directed “Gone Baby Gone” and “The Town,” all of which are set in or around Boston. Brady spent two decades in Massachusetts playing quarterback for the Patriots. He won six Super Bowls for the franchise during the 2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016 and 2018 seasons. The Patriots never won a Super Bowl before Brady and haven’t won one since he left following the 2019 season.
Affleck also talked to the Kelce brothers about his go-to Dunkin’ Donuts order, his favorite Boston athlete, “The Accountant 2” and more.
The latest episode of “New Heights” also featured a recap of the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles draft picks and the Kelce brothers’ thoughts on Shedeur Sanders’ draft day slide.
