The Mike Vrabel-Dianna Russini scandal has been the story of the sports world for the past few weeks. Ever since the first pictures surfaced on the internet, the story has spread like wildfire, significantly affecting both Vrabel and Russini.
Now, other sports shows, like “Inside the NBA” during the playoffs, are also joining in on the fun. However, for some, like one baseball executive, the story hasn’t led to nearly as big consequences as he would have expected for the New England Patriots head coach.
Mike Vrabel Walking Away Unscathed From the Scandal
Since the pictures from Arizona first went public, the story has spread like wildfire. From resurfaced interview moments and suspicious old posts on X, to tampering allegations and even an alleged Spotify playlist, the saga has featured plenty of twists and turns.
Russini resigned from The Athletic, while Vrabel stepped away from the New England Patriots on Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft to enter counseling, and he has admitted to having some “difficult conversations” in the aftermath of the photos leaking.
However, one anonymous baseball executive doesn’t think that is enough of a consequence for Vrabel. Speaking to Charlie Kravitz, the producer and co-host of “The Dominique Foxworth Show,” they made some bold proclamations.
“‘If Mike Vrabel was our manager, we would probably fire him.” The reason, though, was far deeper than just the ethics of the entire situation.
“Because if you’re in the front office and you can’t trust that a coach is going to, if they disagree with you, is going to launder information against the organization and the organizational plan for his own benefit in the case of a disagreement,” Kravitz added about what the baseball executive told him. “That is something that’s a trust that you can’t pay that person $8 million, $10 million, whatever Vrabel is being paid.”
The absence of that trust could become a major problem not only for the organization but, eventually, for the locker room as well. So far, it doesn’t seem like the Patriots are making any changes with a head coach who took them from four wins to a Super Bowl appearance.

However, if his absences continue over the summer, it could force the team to make a decision. The third day of the draft was a very important day that Vrabel had to miss.
If situations like that keep popping up, it could severely undermine the team’s overall state. Add in the alleged tampering by Vrabel last offseason, accidentally leaked by Russini, and it could prompt the NFL to levy consequences against the three-time Super Bowl champion.
