Barstool CEO Dave Portnoy Takes Shot at Tony Romo’s Broadcast Style While Applauding Greg Olsen

Barstool CEO Dave Portnoy blasts Tony Romo and praises Greg Olsen when discussing the broadcasting assignments for the NFL Playoffs.

Dave Portnoy has built a reputation for sharing some of his most controversial opinions publicly. The Barstool CEO is no stranger to speaking his mind, often doing so bluntly and without much of a filter. He recently aimed at Tony Romo, while complimenting Greg Olsen in the process.

Dave Portnoy Roasts Tony Romo to Praise Greg Olsen

Portnoy regularly appears on many different shows on his Barstool platform and recently did so on “Wake Up Barstool” with Olsen as one of his guests. The former NFL tight end currently works as a Fox analyst in the booth for games on their second team for most weekly slates.

Romo is the top booth analyst for CBS, but the Barstool CEO is apparently not a fan of his broadcasting style. Portnoy blasted the former quarterback following Wild Card weekend in the NFL Playoffs, while giving Olsen credit for the way that he calls games.

“Your stock keeps going up. There’s a guy on the other network, he looks like he’s on drugs or something when he’s calling games. Your stock is going up, congrats for that … Romo, I mean, come on, what was he talking about? He started that game off with the most nonsensical rant I’ve ever heard,” exclaimed Portnoy.

Olsen previously served on the top broadcasting team for NFL games on Fox, but was demoted to their second squad when Tom Brady was hired to surpass him. His final assignment for the 2025 season came during the Wild Card round of the playoffs. He was on the call with play-by-play announcer Joe Davis when the Carolina Panthers took on the Los Angeles Rams.

This was likely an honor for Olsen, who spent much of his career as a tight end for the Panthers, but he also probably still wishes to be on the top team. According to Portnoy, he actually performs better than the top analyst from the CBS team. His insults of Romo surely imply that he feels that way.

However, the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback will receive another assignment for the Divisional round, while Olsen is done for the year.

Fox is also carrying a game for the second round of the playoffs. Still, it will be Brady and his announcer, Kevin Burkhardt, handling the call when the Seattle Seahawks and their third-ranked defense in PFSN’s Impact Rankings host the San Francisco 49ers. Perhaps to the dismay of Portnoy, Romo will be tasked with calling the Buffalo Bills’ next game against the Denver Broncos.
