Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty suffered a right shoulder injury during the first quarter of the Raiders’ NFL preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
But that didn’t keep Jeanty out of action for long. In fact, Jeanty scored his first NFL preseason touchdown late in the first quarter, giving the Raiders a 10-3 lead.
Jeanty appeared to be OK after getting checked out by the Raiders’ medical personnel. He had made some solid runs after taking handoffs from Raiders quarterback Geno Smith. But Jeanty, who is a rookie out of Boise State, was blown up on a big hit by a 49ers defender.
What Happened to Ashton Jeanty?
After Jeanty got up from that hit, he went to the Raiders’ sideline and right into the blue tent. Jeanty left the tent and was seen moving around on the Raiders’ sideline. He looked to be OK as TV cameras followed him for a minute.
NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo sent a post out on X about Jeanty’s injury situation. He wrote, “#Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty in the medical tent. Took a shot that last drive and was shaking his arm as he came off the field.”

Jeanty returned to play late in the first quarter against the 49ers. In fact, he took a handoff from Smith and slanted toward the right side of the Raiders’ offensive line and scored from one yard out.

After watching Jeanty return to the field, Bleacher Report NFL Insider James Palmer offered an update on him on X. Palmer wrote, “Ashton Jeanty gets the carry on the first two plays of the next Raiders drive and runs over defenders. Appears to be fine after visiting the medical tent after taking a big on the previous drive.”
How Does Jeanty Look for Fantasy Teams?
As Jeanty keeps on showing that he’s one tough Raider out on the field, seeing him leave with an injury might have given fantasy players pause for concern.
How should fantasy team players look at Jeanty when forming their teams? PFSN’s Jason Katz offers some insight just in the nick of time.
“A surefire top 15 pick in redraft leagues, Jeanty is poised to join a long line of early first-round running backs to smash as rookies,” Katz wrote. “Running backs with Jeanty’s profile and top 10 NFL Draft capital almost never fail. But to succeed, Jeanty has to stay on the field.
“Jeanty’s decision to lower his shoulder into a defender in the preseason is certainly dubious, but fortunately, he seems okay,” Katz wrote. “Fantasy managers should not ding Jeanty at all in upcoming drafts. If anyone tells you he’s not worth a first-round pick because he’s a rookie, remember to ignore that person’s advice going forward. Jeanty is the real deal.
“With that said, in the event Jeanty does miss any time, Raheem Mostert was the second back in the game,” Katz wrote. “The oldest back in the league at age 33, Mostert doesn’t have much left to offer. He would be a very uninspiring RB3, at best, if Jeanty were to miss any game action during the season. Fantasy managers taking Jeanty should not bother handcuffing him.”
Look for Jeanty to keep getting reps during training camp but also during the NFL preseason for the Raiders and head coach Pete Carroll.
