NFL World Reacts to Vikings’ Rumored Interest in Trading for Anthony Richardson Sr.: ‘They’d Be Dangerous’

The Vikings are a potential landing spot for Anthony Richardson Sr., with the Colts rumored to be seeking a trade for him.

Anthony Richardson Sr. was once thought of as one of the most exciting quarterback prospects in the NFL. He has ultimately failed to live up to his massive expectations with the Indianapolis Colts, who are now rumored to be seeking a trade for him. Many around the league reacted to the growing speculation that the Minnesota Vikings could be his potential landing spot.

Are the Vikings a Good Landing Spot for Anthony Richardson Sr. if the Colts Trade Him?

Cameron Wolfe was among those at the NFL Combine who reported the Colts’ desire to seek a trade for Richardson. He followed up his initial report with another one, suggesting that the Vikings are one of the teams to keep a close eye on, as the two sides have “mutual interest” in each other.

The rumors have sparked quite a reaction around the league, as Minnesota could be looking to replace J.J. McCarthy, who severely struggled last season. Some think the addition of Richardson could be a massive upgrade.

“They’d be dangerous,” said Sam Block of ESPN.

McCarthy finished just 37th in PFSN’s NFL QB Impact Rankings in 2025, so the idea of seeking an upgrade is certainly possible. Some have speculated whether adding the Colts quarterback is even a way to do that, as he has suffered through plenty of his own struggles.

“A McCarthy vs. Richardson camp competition would be something,” teased Aaron Leming of 247 Sports.

Others seem to be fascinated by the idea of Richardson working with head coach Kevin O’Connell, who has a reputation for reviving struggling quarterbacks. Most recently, he helped Sam Darnold change his perception from being a failed prospect to a deserving starter. Maybe he can do the same for the Colts’ draft bust.

“The next KOC redemption tour QB,” suggested Benjamin Allbright, a prominent Broncos insider.

In addition to working with a proven coach capable of getting the most out of quarterbacks, a move to Minnesota would also give him the luxury of playing with Justin Jefferson, one of the best wide receivers in the league. He never necessarily had an elite target in Indianapolis, so it would be interesting to see how this could impact his game.

“JJ & AR would be quite an awkward dynamic. If KOC elects to trade for him instead of a veteran, I think it suggests that’s the guy he always wanted to develop more…,” stated Nico of Elite Takes.

In his first year with McCarthy as his primary quarterback, Jefferson set career lows in yardage and touchdowns. It’s fair to wonder if this potential trade would even be an upgrade, but it still might be worth a shot, considering their offensive regression and underutilized superstar wide receiver last year.
