The Detroit Lions lost a lot of their staff in the offseason and took a tough loss in their season opener to their rivals, the Green Bay Packers. Ever since, they’ve steamrolled their way to 4-1 and are tied for the best record in the NFL.
They are in cruise control right now, and staying healthy is key to keeping their momentum. But some bad news came out of Wednesday’s practice as Amon-Ra St. Brown missed it with a wrist injury.
Amon-Ra St. Brown’s Week 6 Status
St. Brown was not on the practice field for Detroit’s practice on Wednesday. He popped up on the injury report with a wrist problem. However, he was a full participant in Thursday’s practice.
“I’m feeling good,” the Lions star said about his injury. “It’s been bugging me for a little. … Nothing to worry about.”
The Lions are traveling to Kansas City to face the Chiefs in Week 6, and St. Brown is expected to play. As a receiver, he needs his wrist to be healthy because it would affect his ability to catch the ball. There is cause for concern because of the injury being to his wrist, but it’s still early and it could just be a precaution to limit pain or soreness.
St. Brown’s impact cannot be understated for the Detroit offense. He is the 3rd-ranked wide receiver in PFSN’s Wide Receiver Impact score with a grade of 94.0. He is only trailing Rams WR Puka Nacua and Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who are leading the NFL in receiving yards through five weeks.
St. Brown has 35 catches, 407 receiving yards, and six touchdowns in five games. He’s finding the end zone consistently. No one in the NFL has more receiving touchdowns than St. Brown this season.
With St. Brown expected to play against Kansas City, a matchup between St. Brown and First-Team All-Pro Trent McDuffie will be a must-watch television show on primetime. The Chiefs haven’t had the start to the season they expected, but they have come close to wins against three great teams and will be hungry to prove that they can win a tough game.
St. Brown and the Lions will be looking to continue Kansas City’s trend of dropping games against good teams. The star receiver has to focus on getting fully healthy in time for the game before he can worry about taking down the Chiefs. It’s going to be a storyline to monitor in the lead-up to the game, but St. Brown’s comments indicate that he will be on the field against the Chiefs.
