It’s not Thanksgiving without the Detroit Lions playing in the early slot. The Lions needed to win today against their division rival, the Green Bay Packers, if they wanted to keep pace in the NFC playoff race. Their task got harder after Amon-Ra St. Brown left the game with an apparent leg injury.
What Happened to Amon-Ra St. Brown?
St. Brown was blocking on a run in the first quarter, and his leg got rolled up on by a teammate. He was in a lot of pain and left the game. The Lions star headed straight to the locker room to get checked out after leaving the field.
St. Brown did not register any catches in his very limited action. Lions fans will be holding their breath as they await the news on their star receiver. St. Brown is the fourth-highest ranked receiver in PFSN’s WR Impact score with a grade of 87.9. Undoubtedly, this is a massive loss, and the Lions need him on the field.
The Lions don’t have a ton of depth at wide receiver. They have the appearance of depth, but no one other than St. Brown has been able to prove capable of consistently producing.

Already down Sam LaPorta, this team can ill afford to lose its top receiver. Jameson Williams would be forced into the WR1 role, but he’s simply not built for that job, given his skill set and inconsistency.
Isaac TeSlaa would suddenly find himself in an every-down role. He looks more like a prototypical X receiver. But if TeSlaa were good enough to play more, he would.
Ultimately, this may lead to more snaps with both running backs on the field. The second snap after St. Brown headed to the locker room, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery were out there together. Gibbs may legitimately be the best healthy receiver on the team.
St. Brown did not return to the game, and the Lions’ head coach, Dan Campbell, offered an update on the receiver after the game. “Amon-Ra St. Brown suffered an ankle injury that is not considered significant, but he’s likely to miss 1-2 weeks, per HC Dan Campbell,” wrote NFL insider Ari Meirov on X. “They’ll know more tomorrow.”
On Friday, NFL insider Tom Pelissero gave a positive update on the Lions star. “Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown is believed to have suffered a low ankle sprain Sunday, sources say, and while he continues to be evaluated, it’s good news so far on his chances for returning sooner than later,” he wrote on X. “Detroit plays just one game in the next 16 days: Dec. 4 against Dallas.”
The Packers came away with a big 31-24 win over the Lions on Thanksgiving. Detroit is now 7-5 on the season, and will have to face the Dallas Cowboys next week without their star receiver.
However, St. Brown is unlikely to miss multiple games and could possibly play in Week 15 for the Lions.
