There haven’t been a lot of positives for the New Orleans Saints this year. After their former quarterback, Derek Carr, announced his shocking retirement, they have treated this year as a rebuild with their focus squarely on the 2026 NFL Draft.
However, things may have taken a turn for the worse as they faced the Atlanta Falcons. Trying to gauge what they have in rookie Tyler Shough, the team lost his biggest safety valve in the form of an injury to superstar running back Alvin Kamara.
What Happened to Alvin Kamara?
As the Saints tried to keep it competitive against an Atlanta team without its starting quarterback, they weren’t able to get it going in the first half. Trailing 10-7, the injury to Kamara was just the worst salt on their wounds.
Landing awkwardly on the ground on a running attempt, he was immediately taken to the sidelines and into the medical tent. It seemed like things were going to be fine as he made his way back to the sideline.
But then, developments got worse. “Alvin Kamara is back in the medical tent after leaving it just a few minutes ago. He has not been on the field since the play where he landed awkwardly.”
Soon after, John Hendrix of the New Orleans Football Network provided an idea of what was going on. “Kamara went into the tent following that original tackle, came back out and rejoined the sideline, but then went back into the tent again for a longer period.”
Continuing, he added, “Tested some things out on the sideline, talked to a trainer and then trotted to the locker room following a Saints punt.” If the injury turns out to be a serious issue, then New Orleans might regret their conduct at the trade deadline.

With a chance to trade Kamara, as multiple teams were on the lookout for a running back, the running back decided to stay in New Orleans.
Unfortunately, things might be trending in that direction, as the Saints announced on X, “Injury update: Alvin Kamara has been ruled OUT for the remainder of today’s game.”
Ranked 28th on PFSN’s RB Impact, he’d already taken a major step back this season, while averaging just 46 rushing yards per game through 10 games, and adding a single rushing touchdown. Even through the air, his contribution to the offense was minimal.
Typically a strong suit for him, Kamara had struggled to make an impact as a pass catcher, totaling just 182 receiving yards in 10 games.
